DENVER—Despite repeated claims that Colorado is not a “sanctuary state” for illegal immigration, Gov. Jared Polis on May 23 signed a bill into law that both reinforces and expands Colorado’s existing protections for immigrants living in the country illegally.

‘So, arrest me’: Newsom taunts border czar as ICE riots rage

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned the Trump administration on Sunday and dared border czar Tom Homan to arrest him amid the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles County.

Trump drew the ire of California Democrats, such as Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, after he deployed the National Guard to shut down the riots that broke out over the weekend. Homan then warned Newsom and Bass against impeding federal law enforcement officers and threatened them with arrest if they “cross[ed]” the line.” The California governor shot back, imploring the Trump administration to keep their “hands off these poor people” who are “just trying to live their lives.”

Trump issues visa ban impacting 19 countries, effective June 9

President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Wednesday that suspends nationals from 12 countries from entering the United States, and it also restricts people from seven other countries from entering.

Unlike an executive order, a proclamation issued by the president isn’t legally binding but generally signals a shift in official federal government policy. It will go into effect on Monday, June 9, at 12:01 a.m. ET.

What Countries Are Listed in the Ban?

The 12 countries that face total bans under the proclamation include Afghanistan, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Burma (also known as Myanmar), Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

‘Congressional inquiry’ triggers $250K legal tab for Denver’s sanctuary city stance

The legal bill is coming due for Denver’s response to a congressional inquiry.

The city recently received an invoice for $250,000 from Covington & Burling, the high-powered Washington law firm the city hired as it faced federal scrutiny over its immigration policies.

The city has been represented by Dana Remus, who previously was the White House counsel for former president Joe Biden. The contract began Feb. 1 as Mayor Mike Johnston was preparing to testify before the Republican-led U.S. House Oversight Committee.

But local Americans are still being killed by President Joe Biden’s migrants, including a 24-year-old woman killed in July of 2024 in Aurora by a 15-year-old reckless illegal-migrant driver. The local prosecutor just offered a sweetheart probation and community service deal to the youth migrant who is now applying for humanitarian asylum.

Denver kills camera contract over ICE fears, leaving crime-fighting tools off the table

DENVER (KDVR) — On May 5, the Denver City Council failed to approve a contract extension with Flock, a tech surveillance company that has been contracted to provide over 100 license plate readers around the county.

The city first contracted with Flock in March 2023, with the original agreement lasting through the end of this February. The amendment would have extended the contract by another two years for $666,000. The original contract cost the city $339,450, but the cost wasn’t the main reason why council members voted no.
