BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (Gray News) – A sheriff in Florida delivered a stern warning to potentially destructive protesters demonstrating against the ongoing national immigration crackdown.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was joined by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier on Thursday to announce support to law enforcement officers in the state.
The suspect in the Boulder, Colo., attack highlights a type of immigrant who has been largely absent from the heated political messaging on immigration: a person who arrives in the United States legally, on a tourist or other temporary visa, and remains after their permission to stay has lapsed.
Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national accused of carrying out the attack in Colorado, entered on a tourist visa in August 2022 that would have allowed him to remain in the country for six months once he presented his passport to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection official at an airport on arrival. A Denver resident who once advocated for immigrant rights has revealed how her political allegiance shifted from the Democrats to Donald Trump due to concerns over crime and border security.
Speaking to GB News, the woman explained her dramatic change of heart: “I was planning on voting for Kamala Harris but I could not bring myself to do it. If it was not for Donald Trump, we might still be living next to gang members because everything changed after he was elected.”
