Garfield joins eight counties to have opted out of state’s sensitive spaces concealed carry ban

By Lindy Browning | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice During a Monday meeting of Garfield County's commissioners, the board of Tom Jankovsky, Mike Sampson and Perry Will exercised an option to exempt Garfield County from the law, created by Senate Bill 24-131, which prohibits lawful concealed carry by permit holders from government buildings. The bill, by Democrat Sens. Sonya Jaquez Lewis — who recently resigned in disgrace — and Chris Kolker, took effect in July 2024. In Garfield County, those who possess a valid concealed carry permit can now take handguns into specific government buildings, in this case the county's administration buildings, in both Glenwood and Rifle, where the county commissioners have offices. Colorado Springs woman embezzled more than $123k from local Little League, court documents allege

By Mackenzie Bodell | The Gazette A volunteer treasurer for the Academy Little League in Colorado Springs has been accused of stealing more than $123,000 from the organization over a year and a half that paid for personal shopping sprees and legal fees.  Michelle Gorr, 51, was arrested in October after the president of the organization, Jacob Larkee, reported the theft in December 2023, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Gazette. The affidavit alleges Gorr admitted to using the league's bank account for personal reasons in an email to Larkee in December 2023. By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News Denver City Council approved another excessive force lawsuit settlement on Tuesday, adding $2.5 million to bring the total paid for lawsuits and settlements to nearly $30 million since 2020. Tuesday’s settlement will go to 13 Black Lives Matter protestors who were protesting police brutality in late May and early June of 2020. The group alleges that Denver police officers deployed tear gas, rubber bullets and flashbangs without cause or warning during the protests. Denver International Airport unveils final phase of Great Hall renovation, lays out future projects

By Austen Erblat | CBS Colorado Construction inside Denver International Airport's Jeppesen Terminal could soon be nearing its end. And while plenty of other renovation projects at the airport are now in their early stages, airport officials say those won't have nearly the same impact as the Great Hall renovation. DIA CEO Phil Washington unveiled plans and renderings for the final phase of the Great Hall Project on Tuesday, saying the remodeled terminal will showcase "the spirit of Colorado" and better serve passengers.
