Here in El Paso County, we’re waiting for the next steps for another potential store in Palmer Lake. “I think it’s put Johnstown on the map,” said Johnstown Mayor Michael P. Duncan. Mayor Duncan has been in his seat since April. He wasn’t around for the planning of the Buc-ee’s but his city is reaping the benefits of it being open. “We’re pulling in about $1 million a year. That goes back into the infrastructure. Our fire, our police, our water...,” Mayor Duncan said. READ THE FULL STORY AT KKTV-TV CBS 11 NEWS

Colorado seizes nearly 2.7 million fentanyl pills in 2024, setting new record with month to go

By Lindsey Grewe | KKTV-TV CBS 11 The state of Colorado has broken an unwanted record: with one month still to go, law enforcement has already seized more fentanyl pills statewide than in any other year past. “It is an unfortunate record to set,” said Jonthan Pullen, special agent in charge with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Rocky Mountain Field Division (RMFD). “... While we have seen seizure numbers trending lower in other parts of the country, Colorado seems to be consistently at or near record highs for the number of fake pills seized.” To date in 2023, RMFD says it has collected nearly 2.7 million fentanyl pills, up from last year’s record-setting 2.61 million pills. Of those roughly 2.7 million, lab testing revealed half contain enough fentanyl to be fatal. READ T...

Colorado Springs leaders advocating for Back the Blue, Truth in Sentencing propositions

By Michelle Wells | CBS 11 News Colorado safety leaders are advocating for two ballot measures in the upcoming election, Proposition 128 and Proposition 130. Proposition 128 is called the Truth in Sentencing proposition and public safety leaders from across the state, including former state attorney general, and Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers, believe it will help better keep you and your family safe with the goal of forcing convicted criminals to serve more of their sentence. If you vote yes on Proposition 128 in November it would require people convicted of certain violent crimes to serve at least 85 percent of their sentence before they would be eligible for parole. If they are repeat offenders with at least two prior convictions, they would be required to serve their enti...
