Bill McCartney, winningest Buffs football coach of all time, dead at 84

By David Plati | CUBuffs.com Bill McCartney, one of the most visible and successful head coaches in all sports in the University of Colorado's 135-year athletic history, passed away peacefully here after a long illness shortly after 9 p.m. Friday evening with family members by his side.  He was 84. When "Mac" first set foot on the CU campus in Boulder in June 1982, little did he – or anyone – know at the time that just over a dozen years later he would retire as the winningest coach in CU football history. He orchestrated a turnaround with a program that had won just 14 games over the previous six seasons to one that claimed three Big Eight Conference titles and the 1990 consensus national championship. He is one of 11 with CU ties in the College Football Hall of Fame, as he was indu...

University of Colorado-Boulder marks 3.4% enrollment increase, has 38,428 students

By Lucas High | BizWest The University of Colorado has 38,428 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled at its flagship campus in Boulder for the fall 2024 semester, up 3.4% from last year.  CU’s acceptance rate for the new school years was 76%, which Amy Hutton, associate vice chancellor for enrollment management, said was “a 30-year low.” Despite the overall enrollment increase, boosted retention caused CU to reduce its freshman-class size, she said, allowing the university to “to ensure (more) dedicated resources for retention and graduation.” READ THE FULL STORY AT BIZWEST

University of Colorado Board of Regents condemns protestors who targeted homes of two regents

By Shaun Boyd | CBS Colorado The University of Colorado's Board of Regents unanimously passed a resolution Thursday condemning a group that organized protests outside the homes of two regents in the Denver metro area. ‘Hostile and discriminatory’: 10th Circuit slams CU for treatment of religious vaccine exemptions

By Michael Karlik | Colorado Politics In a fiery opinion on Tuesday, the federal appeals court based in Denver tore into a pair of COVID-19 vaccination policies the University of Colorado imposed on medical staff in late 2021, concluding they discriminated against certain religions and affected plaintiffs were consequently entitled to exemptions. By 2-1, the all-Republican panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit directed unusually sharp barbs at each other and at the trial judge who initially declined to block the university's mandates. Judge Allison H. Eid, writing for the majority, believed the policies governing religious exemptions at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus were "permeated with animus." CU "has not even attempted to explain why its interest is served by...
