Threats of another King Soopers strike heat up as contract expires

By Bernadette Berdychowski | The Denver Gazette The clock is ticking as contracts across the state expire between the union representing grocery workers in Colorado and Kroger, the parent company of King Soopers and City Market. It’s the first time the union has returned to settle a contract with Kroger since 2022, when negotiations sparked a strike and allegations the grocer colluded with Safeway with illegal non-poach agreements, which are still being settled through lawsuits filed by the state and the grocer’s union United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7. It also comes a month after the proposed merger between Albertsons and Kroger collapsed, which the UFCW Local 7 officials cheered. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DENVER GAZETTE

Dockworkers’ union reaches tentative agreement, will suspend port strike until January

By Bradford Betz | Fox Business Striking U.S. dockworkers will return to work Friday after reaching a tentative agreement with employers on an improved wage offer. The conditional offer was for a 62% wage increase, FOX Business has learned.  The offer is on the table for the next 90 days. If no deal is reached within that timeframe, the proposed wage hike will be pulled from the table.  The International Longshoremen’s Association, which represents 45,000 striking U.S. workers, said the union and USMX have reached a "tentative agreement on wages and have agreed to extend the Master Contract until January 15, 2025 to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues."  READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX BUSINESS

Harris struggles to provide clear answers on economy, taxes, and unions in MSNBC interview

By Brianna Lyman | The Federalist Ruhle did concede that Harris couldn’t “give a clear and direct answer.” For perhaps the first time, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle was the smartest person in the room during her Wednesday interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. The interview went about as well as you could expect between a candidate who has dodged press questions and a “journalist” who justified Harris’ lack of availability to the American public because “she’s running against Trump.” Ruhle did concede that Harris couldn’t “give a clear and direct answer,” though couched that by saying it was “okay because we’re not talking about clear and direct issues.” READ THE FULL STORY AT THE FEDERALIST

The work stoppage puts financial strain on the storied airplane maker, which has been struggling to repair its reputation after the door plug of a Boeing 737 Max 9 blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight in January, prompting regulatory action and congressional scrutiny. Employee unionizing effort to be put to Denver City Council vote tonight, and then it could be headed to voters

By Wanya Reese | Denver 7 News Thousands of city workers in Denver could move a step closer to unionizing as Denver City Council takes a critical vote on the matter Monday night. If approved, voters would have the final say on the November ballot. Three council members that Denver7 spoke with said they are in support of measure and feel confident that the measure will pass. “So right now in the city and county of Denver, people don't have the ability to form a union and have that be formally recognized by the city, and so all we're trying to do is lay the groundwork," said Councilwoman Sara Parady. "What's exciting about it, is that pretty much anything to do with your terms and conditions of employment is on the table." This is a decision that will impact employees across the ...
