What’s the future of the Crested Butte post office? Mayor is ‘blowing the whistle’

By Mark Reaman | Crested Butte News The Crested Butte town council is publicly expressing concern that the town might be without a U.S. Post Office a year from now. The council has tried to work with post office officials for close to three years now and offered to form a partnership where the town would provide a piece of land it owns across from Gothic Field on Sixth Street for a new building. But after what seemed like sometimes positive progress on the issue, the USPS bureaucrats would go silent. Mail delivery suspended today in observance of National Day of Mourning for President Carter

By Heather Willard | Fox 21 News The United States Postal Service is closing its offices on Thursday, Jan. 9, and no mail will be delivered to Colorado residents that day, the agency announced Tuesday. The USPS is suspending its regular mail delivery, retail services and office activity on Thursday in recognition of the national day of observance to honor former President Jimmy Carter, whose state funeral will be held at the National Cathedral on Thursday. In Yuma, May hailstorm causes post office service transfer to Wray, other locations

By The Yuma Pioneer The status of the Yuma Post Office remains a fluid situation to say the least — with its closure now lasting at least 90 days, likely longer. The post office operated on a limited basis following the May 20 hail storm, due to significant water damage. It finally was announced earlier this week that the Yuma Post Office was moving all its operations to the Wray Post Office beginning Wednesday. Mail still is being delivered in Yuma, but the mail carriers have to go to Wray to sort their routes, then come back for delivery. By Elliott Wenzler  | The Craig Press The U.S. Postal Service will pause a plan to reroute mail from the Western Slope to Denver after dozens of Senators from both parties protested the changes.  “While USPS claims these changes overall will improve service while reducing costs, there is evidence to the contrary in locations where USPS has implemented changes so far,” according to a May 8 letter from 24 senators, including Sen. Michael Bennet. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said in response to the senators’ concerns, he will pause implementation of that plan until at least January 2025.
