Number detained by police in gang-related Aurora home invasion grows overnight to 19

By Ashley Portillo | CBS Colorado The number of people detained by police in Aurora is growing after an alleged overnight home invasion and kidnapping at an apartment building in the Colorado city. Police believe most of the suspects are Venezuelan migrants but they are unsure if they're part of a notorious gang. A spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department said on Tuesday evening that 19 people have been detained at the apartment complex, in two separate waves of police actions. Police responded to the apartment building at approximately 2:30 a.m. A group of people there had kidnapped and tortured a man and a woman, according to police. Brambila | Denver Gazette vis Colorado Politics The owners of the troubled apartment complexes in Aurora have filed a lawsuit against Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser to block a subpoena for the company’s records in a civil investigation. Filed in Denver District Court last week by Brooklyn-based CBZ Management and its affiliated companies, the lawsuit also seeks a protective order to block the release of personal or financial information obtained in the subpoenas. Weiser declined comment. CBZ Management owns 11 properties in Colorado, including three apartment complexes in Aurora that nabbed national headlines for claims that a Venezuelan gang had taken over the buildings. Homeland Security Investigations reported on Nov. 1 that Carl Luis Zambrano-Bolivar, 26, and Jhonata Nahin Toro Gonzalez, 22, were arrested on Sept. 26 in Aurora by Denver’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations team. The arrests are connected to a third individual, 38-year-old Ehiker Morales Mendoza, who was arrested by federal law enforcement on Oct. 11 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
