Colorado Starbucks baristas protesting, have list of demands for management

By Austen Erblat | CBS Colorado Starbucks baristas at the company's West Alameda Avenue and South Federal Boulevard location in Denver filed for a union election Friday and on Saturday, baristas from across the Denver metro area are protesting outside another Denver location with a list of demands for the coffee giant. The baristas are organizing after Starbucks unions nationwide have made considerable gains over what workers describe as "unfair labor practices." It also comes at what the union says is Starbucks' busiest season. "I am unionizing for better scheduling practices and to improve work-life balance," Luis Sanchez Hernandez, an 11-year shift supervisor, said in a statement. Supreme Court rules for Starbucks in union case over terminated ‘Memphis Seven’

By ZACH SCHONFELD | The Hill The Supreme Court on Thursday tossed a lower court’s ruling ordering Starbucks to reinstate seven Memphis-based employees terminated amid a unionization drive.  The decision makes it more difficult to immediately block alleged unfair labor practices as they are litigated in a sometimes years-long administrative process. Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the majority opinion on behalf of eight justices, while Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson partially dissented.  The case arose from the “Memphis Seven,” seven Starbucks employees who were terminated in 2022 during a unionization effort. Longmont Starbucks becomes 11th location in Colorado to unionize

By BizWest LONGMONT — Longmont Starbucks workers at the 17th and Hover store have become the latest coffee shop workforce to join a union. The workers petitioned to join the Starbucks Workers United union in February and followed through with a vote this week. The workers voted 15-4 to join more than 410 stores and 10,000 Starbucks workers nationwide who have decided to unionize.
