Tristan: Democrats are betting on fear to win back power

By George Tristan | Guest Columnist, Rocky Mountain Voice Nearly all the plexiglass barriers have been removed from checkout lines in grocery stores. It is rare to find any of the 6-foot spaced markers that facilitated social distancing. And thankfully, toilet paper is back in full supply on store shelves. However, the fear of COVID lives on. Many people still wear masks – some even don gloves.  A law enforcement officer recently refused to shake my hand when I extended mine to thank him for his service.  Undoubtedly, the most significant recent example of the effect of fear on the human psyche, was the pandemic. The daily uptick in the global death toll gripped the world in fear. It drove the masses to stand in line to inject an experimental drug into their veins tha...

Fleetwood: Mitch McConnell has worn out his welcome in politics

By Shawn Fleetwood | The Federalist, Commentary Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., may be nearing the end of his political career, but that doesn’t mean he’s done stabbing Republican voters in the back. During the past few days, the former Senate GOP leader has voted against several of President Donald Trump’s high-profile cabinet picks. On Wednesday, McConnell was the lone Republican to side with Senate Democrats in opposing Tulsi Gabbard’s confirmation as director of National Intelligence. (Gabbard has notably criticized America’s failed foreign interventionism — a starkly different position than McConnell’s unhinged obsession with engulfing the U.S. in overseas forever wars). Senate passes Laken Riley act after Trump’s inauguration

By Henry Rodgers | Daily Caller The U.S. Senate voted Monday to pass the Laken Riley Act, just hours after President Donald Trump was sworn in. The bill passed in a 64-35 vote. Only 12 Democrats voted in favor of the bill. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY CALLER

Trump picks Senate candidate Sam Brown to head VA memorial affairs

By Leo Shane III | Military Times President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday tapped former Nevada Senate candidate Sam Brown to serve as the head of cemetery and memorial affairs for the Department of Veterans Affairs, putting a combat-wounded veteran in charge of the key post. In a statement on social media, Trump called Brown “an American hero” who will work “to ensure we put America’s veterans first and remember all who served.” Brown, 41, is a West Point alumnus who served in the Army for five years after graduation. During a deployment to Afghanistan in 2008, he was severely wounded by an improvised explosive device. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE MILITARY TIMES

Wray and Mayorkas provoke Senate fury after they bail on annual public hearing on threats

By Mike Brest | Washington Examiner Senators on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee of both parties have voiced their anger at FBI Director Christopher Wray and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for declining to appear for their annual threat assessment public hearing. Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), the chairman of the committee, said the Cabinet officials “refused to appear” before the panel for its annual hearing about threats to the homeland for the first time in 15 years. “In a shocking departure from the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s long-standing tradition of transparency and oversight of the threats facing our nation, for the first time in more than 15 years, the Homeland Security Secretary and the FBI...

Ben Shapiro, leading conservative podcaster, takes on new role as Republican fundraiser

By Alex Isenstadt | Politico Ben Shapiro, one of the most listened-to and controversial podcasters in America, is trying a new role: Republican fundraiser. During the final months of the election cycle, Shapiro plans to hold fundraisers for Republican Senate candidates in a handful of races that could determine which party controls the chamber. That’s after Shapiro, once a sharp critic of Donald Trump, co-hosted an event for the former president in late March. Those close to Shapiro say it’s possible he’ll hold another fundraiser for the ex-president ahead of the election. READ THE FULL STORY AT POLITICO
