Prop. 130 would provide $350 million for law enforcement in Colorado, if passed in November

By Aiga Petelo | KJCT-TV ABC 8 News Proposition 130 will be on November’s ballot this upcoming fall. Proposition 130 would require the state to provide $350 million to help local police departments recruit, train, and retain officers. The funding can be used to increase pay for officers, provide hiring and retention bonuses, and provide ongoing training. Additionally, the proposition would also require the state to provide a one-time $1 million death benefit to help families of police officers who are killed in the line of duty. The Colorado Fiscal Institute,who has come out against the measure, stated that the $350 million could be used to pay the salaries of more than 5,700 Colorado teachers or even double Colorado’s Affordable Housing Fund. By Michelle Wells | CBS 11 News Colorado safety leaders are advocating for two ballot measures in the upcoming election, Proposition 128 and Proposition 130. Proposition 128 is called the Truth in Sentencing proposition and public safety leaders from across the state, including former state attorney general, and Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers, believe it will help better keep you and your family safe with the goal of forcing convicted criminals to serve more of their sentence. If you vote yes on Proposition 128 in November it would require people convicted of certain violent crimes to serve at least 85 percent of their sentence before they would be eligible for parole.
