Meet the ‘cutest sheep in the world’ at the National Western Stock Show

By Morgan Whitley | KDVR-TV Fox 31 News  The National Western Stock Show is one of the best ways to kick off the new year with rodeos, shopping and livestock. But there is one animal that’s turning heads this year. Meet the rare, and adorable, Valais Blacknose sheep. A flock of this unique breed from Nashville.Farm is currently educating guests at the stock show, but there is more to them than just their cute faces. According to Jacque Watkins Skinner with Nashville.Farm, the Valais Blacknose sheep originate from the Valais region of Switzerland and were exclusively raised there until the sheep were imported to the British Isles in 2013 and 2014. Ty Winter reminded urban and rural legislators alike Tuesday of the National Western Stock Show in Denver. "Its stock show week here in Denver," said Winter, the assistant minority leader and representative for nine Southeastern Colorado counties. The 119th edition of the National Western Stock Show runs through Jan. 26 with a variety of livestock exhibitions, rodeos and more. The stock show is a 119-year-old tradition that hosts rodeos, youth shows, fiddling, educational activities, livestock shows, food festivals, veterinarian classes, live bands and more for 16 days. On Thursday, Jan. 9, at noon, downtown Denver will be flooded with boots, chaps, cowboy hats and cattle to usher in the 119-year-old Colorado tradition. By Jeff Gurney | CBS Colorado Caroline Lukens was born a cowgirl. "I got this cute little quarter horse named Ranger and he was my first horse," Lukens said. Now she's running the one of the nation's premier livestock, rodeo and horse shows at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. As the rodeo operations coordinator, Lukens is responsible for producing one of the largest rodeos in the country.
