Have you ever wondered about the process for military and overseas ballots? Here’s how it works in El Paso County

By Dara Korn | Fox 21 News The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office sent over 6,100 General Election ballots to voters under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), including military members, their dependents, and citizens living abroad. “We ensure every eligible voter is enfranchised, with special accommodations provided for our out-of-state military and citizens living out of the country,” said Clerk Steve Schleiker. “These voters receive ballots in advance of others and have an 8-day extension to return their ballot. Our duty to them and all voters is to guarantee their democratic right to vote is uncompromised by their circumstances.” READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX 21 NEWS

Israel neutralizes Hamas’s military capacity in Gaza

By Limor Simhony Philpott | The Spectator Has Hamas finally been defeated in Gaza, nearly a year after it launched the most deadly attack in Israel’s history? Israel’s defense minister Yoav Gallant has proclaimed that Hamas no longer has a military capacity in Gaza.  Hamas has indeed suffered a considerable blow since October. Many of its tunnels — one of its greatest strategic assists — have been destroyed entirely or partially. Many of its commanders have been killed. Two of its top three leaders, Mohammed Deif and Marwan Issa have been eliminated, as was the organization’s political leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran.  Although the precise number of killed Hamas terrorists is not known, it is substantial. More importantly, the elimination ...

Inflation has some military families ‘grasping at pennies’

By Karen Jowers | Military Times Inflation is “destroying any joy we may have been able to afford,” the airman wrote. “We are literally grasping at pennies to survive and it’s killing us.” Statements from the airman — stationed at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico — and many others came in response to Military Times’ call for comments on how inflation has impacted service members and their families. Most responded with a common theme: Families are “cutting back” or “eliminating” everything from grocery shopping and driving to subscription services, vacations and eating out. Consumer prices were up by 3% from June 2023 to June 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s on top of inflation over the previous several years. READ MORE AT THE MILITARY TIMES...

Pentagon withholding docs on whether DEI hiring improves national security, veteran says

By Casey Harper | Daily Signal The U.S. Department of Defense is under scrutiny for refusing to release records about exactly how spending on diversity, equity, and inclusion helps with national security. The Center to Advance Security in America in May filed with the Defense Department a Freedom of Information Act Request, the legal pathway to obtain government documents. The FOIA sought to find out what Pentagon officials estimate is the real impact on national security of DEI spending, for which Congress approved $86.5 million in fiscal year 2023. Navy outfits aircraft carrier with first drone operations center

By Caitlyn Burchett | Stars & Stripes The Navy recently outfitted an aircraft carrier with the first drone operations center, furthering the service’s high-tech pursuit into remotely piloted aircraft. The MQ-25 Stingray warfare center was installed aboard the USS George H.W. Bush, which is based at Naval Station Norfolk, Va., according to an Aug. 15 announcement from Naval Air Systems Command. The MQ-25 Stingray, built by Boeing, is a tanker drone designed to refuel manned fighter jets in midair. Early next year, the Bush will put the warfare center to the test, leading the first at-sea trial of the center’s networks. The crew won’t operate a Stingray but will instead use the software to communicate with a simulated aircraft in a lab in Patuxent River, Md. READ MORE ON STAR...

Colorado National Guard training with Jordanians as conflict persists in the Middle East

By Mary Shinn | Colorado Springs Gazette As conflict persists in the Middle East, the Colorado National Guard is playing a key role in maintaining America's partnership with Jordan, a U.S. ally in the region.  Colorado National Guard members were in Jordan last week training with Jordanian units, during one of the 35 annual training events organized between the local guard and Jordan, said Brig. Gen. Michael Bruno, who oversees the partnership. About half of the weeklong training events take place in Colorado and half in Jordan.  The partnership, now in its 20th year, has helped lay the groundwork for the U.S. to more easily work with Jordan if needed and trained Jordanians to be more capable, he said.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE COLORADO SPRINGS GAZETTE

While talking with families of fallen soldiers, Biden reportedly repeated false story his son, Beau, was killed in action in Iraq By Haisten Willis | Colorado Springs Gazette President Joe Biden participated Friday in the dignified transfer of three U.S. service members who were killed last weekend in Jordan. During a ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, the bodies of the Army reserve soldiers, Sgt. William Rivers, Sgt. Breonna Moffett, and Sgt.
