In a letter to Mayor Mike Johnston and city leaders sent last week, Dave Query, owner of Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar, expressed frustrations with the mayor, noting he had promised on the campaign trial to turn downtown around. Several other major restaurateurs in downtown Denver signed on to Query's letter, including owners from Illegal Pete’s, ChoLon Restaurant Concepts and Union Station’s restaurant operators. U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans, a Weld County resident, has been authorized, presumably by Chairman James Comer, to waive onto the committee to question Johnston, and potentially the mayors of Boston, Chicago and New York City. By Kyle Harris | Denverite A City of Denver employee is suing the Mayor’s Office and the Mayor’s Chief Equity Officer. Jessica Calderon’s allegations include sex and national-origin discrimination, retaliation and violations of her constitutional rights to free expression and assembly.  She filed the complaint in August and her attorneys amended it this week. It addresses several years of grievances that span the administrations of former mayor Michael Hancock and Mayor Mike Johnston.
