Barbershop owner in Loveland sues city again over Centerra South development

By Dallas Heltzell | BizWest A Loveland resident has filed a second complaint in Larimer County District Court involving the Loveland City Council’s actions surrounding the urban-renewal and financing agreements for the proposed Centerra South development. Barbershop owner Bill Jensen, who is appealing a district judge’s decision in March to throw out his complaint alleging that the previous city council’s votes to approve the agreements with developer McWhinney Real Estate Services were invalid based on open-meetings violations and improper notice, filed another complaint last week. Representing himself, Jensen’s new lawsuit contends that the council deprived him of transparency and violated open-meetings law when a quorum emerged from an executive session at 2:15 a.m. on Feb. 21...

Purina facility smells so bad that it’s getting sued, investigated by the state

By Catie Cheshire | Westword The stinky Purina factory in northeast Denver next to Interstate 70 is well known around the city. Now a class-action lawsuit has been lodged in the U.S. District Court of Colorado alleging that noxious fumes from the pet food plant are so bad that people who live nearby should be compensated for their loss of property value and quality of life. The lawsuit is aiming for class certification with Robert Fields and Lorena Ortiz, two Denver residents who live within a mile of the facility at 4555 York Street, as the representatives who filed it on May 28. El Paso County to consider suing state of Colorado over ‘unconstitutional’ immigration laws

Breeanna Jent | Colorado Springs Gazette El Paso County could join a lawsuit against the state of Colorado, challenging laws that stop local governments from cooperating with the federal government in certain matters of immigration. The Board of El Paso County Commissioners at its regular meeting Tuesday will consider a resolution authorizing litigation against the state. If approved, the county would officially object to two state bills passed in 2019 and 2023 that prohibit local law enforcement, including the El Paso County sheriff, from arresting or detaining individuals based on a civil immigration detainer.
