‘The numbers don’t lie’, Boebert victory was a landslide in 4th District

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice WINDSOR -- There hasn't been an outcome in a race like this since 1973. Then, it was the soon to be legend Secretariat blowing away Sham and the field by 31 lengths to win horse racing's Triple Crown. Tuesday night, Lauren Boebert defeated all five Republican suitors in the 4th District's primary election for the U.S. House seat formerly held by ex-U.S. Rep. Ken Buck by 29.1% -- in a six-candidate race. It wasn't even close. "The numbers don't lie," said Drew Sexton, who manages the Boebert campaign. Boebert won 15 of the 21 counties in the district, and earned votes where it mattered to win. She took 24,277 votes in Douglas County, more than double the total of fellow frontrunner Deborah Flora in what had figured to be an area of steng...

‘You can pick up the phone and fix it’: Sonnenberg inspired to remain Eastern Plains commissioner

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice The phone rang Tuesday at almost dusk at Lauren Boebert's Victory Headquarters. On the other end of the line was Jerry Sonnenberg. He was the first, and at the time the only, of Boebert's five Republican Party primary election opponents to call and congratulate her on victory and wish her well in the general election. She praised his spirit of sportsmanship. Sonnenberg had finished second in the 4th District race for U.S. representative, following ex-U.S. Rep. Ken Buck in office. He had captured victory in five of 21 counties in the district, but not in the vote-heavy and population-thick western areas of the district. Boebert had claimed 43.4% of the vote in a six-person race, carrying 15 counties; Sonnenberg had beaten four of his five oppo...

Lauren Boebert wins Colorado CD4 GOP primary to replace Ken Buck

By Ernest Luning | The Denver Gazette U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert is on track to return to Congress from her newly adopted district Tuesday night by winning the crowded GOP primary in Colorado's 4th Congressional District. At the same time, Republican Greg Lopez won election to serve out the remainder of former five-term U.S. Rep. Ken Buck's term, following Buck's resignation from the U.S. House earlier this year. Lopez, a former Parker mayor and two-time gubernatorial candidate, led Democratic nominee Trisha Calvarese by double digits. The Associated Press declared Boebert had won the primary at 7:22 p.m., not long after polls closed. Lopez was declared the winner 10 minutes later. Boebert led the vote tally at 8 p.m. with 42,776 votes, or 43% of the total, with fo...

‘I am 100% conservative’: Boebert predicts 4th District primary victory in call with supporters

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice When the dust settles in less than 24 hours on the Republican Party's primary election, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert intends to be the party's 4th District general election nominee. "We have definitely put in the work," she said during a Monday evening call with grassroots supporters. "I'm ready for a victory." While she brought the panache to the call, her campaign manager, Drew Sexton, noted his desire to tamper expectations until after election returns. "We're hopeful to bring it home tomorrow," he said. She is able to have high expectations, Boebert said, because of the effort put into the campaign, effort some didn't recognize, such as two opponents who criticized that she expected the campaign to be a "coronation". A Kaplan Strategies...

In show of her dominance in 4th District, Boebert has out-raised and spent her five opponents combined

By Sandra Fish | The Colorado Sun U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert vastly outraised her five Republican opponents in the 4th Congressional District in the two months leading up to the June 25 primary while spending heavily on TV and mailers to reach voters, campaign finance reports filed Thursday reveal. The $334,000 Boebert raised from April 1 to June 5 lagged the $624,000 she raised during the lead up to the primary in 2022. But the money was still enough to eclipse the $178,000 brought in by her five GOP competitors combined this year, according to Federal Election Commission reports. The reports, the last ones before the primary, are another indication that Boebert is likely to dominate on June 25. Her Republican opponents have failed to gain financial and political tra...

50 Cent goes to Capitol Hill and meets Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Silt, was among the lawmakers to visit with rap artist 50 Cent on Wednesday during a visit to Capitol Hill. The artist was visiting lawmakers to advocate for Black entrepreneurs to lawmakers, The Hill reports. Boebert was shown in a photo with 50 Cent, a stage name for Curtis Jackson III, on Instagram, where he wrote "Lauren Boebert, Colorado Republican making the White House look good." 50 Cent is best known for his hit song "In Da Club". “My experience here has been great,” 50 Cent told The Hill. “I went to talk to them about economic opportunities for everybody, and it’s really exciting. The response I got makes me feel like that there’s bright days ahead of us.” On Wednesday, Boebert also wrote on Twitter/X ...

In Boebert-less 4th District debate, Republican Rumble still centered on Boebert

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice DENVER -- A brief heated exchange between Deborah Flora and Richard Holtorf highlighted what otherwise was a 4th District congressional debate which seemed to center on everything but those appearing on stage Saturday during the Republican Rumble here at the Grizzly Rose. Lauren Boebert chose not to attend the Republican Rumble debate, and instead focus her final weekend prior to ballots being received on campaigning. Yet, she was the focus of the first question of the debate when candidates were asked to consider differences between them and the top-line candidate on the ballot. "We hear a whole bunch of rhetoric that doesn't actually discuss results," said Mike Lynch, adding criticism of Boebert's move from the 3rd to the 4th District, aski...

‘Rigged from the beginning’: Candidates for 4th District express deep concerns with Trump verdict

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice It is a largely rural area of Colorado, where cattle outnumber voters and where Donald Trump won by an 18.6% margin in his second bid for the presidency in 2020. One pollster termed the 4th District "MAGA Country", for the area's affinity toward the 45th President of the United States. In rural areas of the district, semi-truck trailers in numerous communities are retired to fields and painted in tribute to Donald Trump, and it is not uncommon to see a pop-up corner market of MAGA merchandise for sale on a weekend near busy intersections in places like Fort Morgan. Whether rural or urban, there's not a significant difference in Republican opinion toward the former President in the district. So, it may come as little surprise Republican can...

Rep. Boebert announces mobile office hours in 3rd District during June

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice There will be a number of opportunities in June for those in the 3rd District to connect with the staff of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Silt. This week, the Congresswoman announced a series of mobile office locations and hours in the district during the month of June. “If any citizen in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District is having issues with a federal agency, or want your voice to be heard, please come to one of our mobile office hours, and a member of my team will be happy to assist you," Boebert said. Residents in the 3rd District have gained considerable value from prior mobile office hours, with 270 hours logged in every county in the district, assisting 3,026 residents and returning $6.3 million to constituents, a press statement f...

GOP lawmakers’ attendance at Trump trial could be a problem during a key vote today

By REBECCA BEITSCH AND ZACH SCHONFELD | The Hill At least nine Republican lawmakers traveled to New York to appear in court alongside former President Trump on Thursday, the latest in a string of GOP lawmakers to attend the hush money trial. The move could jeopardize GOP attendance at a key vote later in the day and also comes after the House Oversight and Accountability Committee bumped a scheduled hearing to facilitate their attendance at court. Reps. Matt Gaetz (Fla.), Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Mike Waltz (Fla.) and Eli Crane (Ariz.) were spotted in the courtroom, while Reps. Andy Ogles (Tenn.) Anna Paulina Luna (Fla.), Ralph Norman (S.C.) and House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good (Va.) were also spotted at the Manhattan c...
