By John Oyewale | Daily Caller The Senate confirmed Republican South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) Saturday. “The yeas are 59, the nays are 34. The nomination is confirmed,” Republican Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall, who presided over the confirmation, said on the floor of the Senate after the livestreamed roll call vote. Noem, 53, becomes the eighth DHS Secretary. Her confirmation hearing was held Jan. 17. By The Washington Examiner President-elect Donald Trump is expected to nominate Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) as secretary of homeland security.  Noem has been governor of South Dakota since 2019, the first woman to serve as governor in the state’s history. She won reelection in 2022 and began her second term in January 2023. She was elected to South Dakota’s at-large seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010.
