An email announcing the tele-town hall to constituents indicated it would take place at 7 p.m. (Mountain) Wednesday, March 5. Those attending will be able to ask questions of the congressman. “This will be a great opportunity to connect with the constituents of Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, take their questions, hear their concerns and discuss President Trump’s address to the nation," Crank said in a statement. Letter asks Gov. Polis to lead repeal of three laws he signed which created state immigration sanctuary

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Whether Gov. Jared Polis means what he says is the subject of a recent joint letter from three Republican members of the U.S. House to the governor. The letter dated Jan. 17, 2025, references the governor's pledge in his State of the State address to "welcome more federal help to detain and deport dangerous criminals". The statement stands in opposition to three pieces of legislation law enforcement often say tells a different story. The letter, authored on U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans letterhead, and additionally signed by U.S. Reps. Lauren Boebert and Jeff Crank, takes the governor's comments at face value. "This is undoubtedly welcome news to Coloradans, who have watched the sanctuary state policies you signed negatively impact our state — f...

In tight vote for Speaker, Johnson could potentially sweep four GOP votes from Colorado

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice A slight Republican margin in the U.S. House will make Speaker Mike Johnson's re-election bid later this week potentially a must-see. Republicans hold a 220-215 seat advantage in the U.S. House, but one Republican has resigned, and two other Republicans have indicated their opposition to Johnson. It takes 218 votes to win the Speaker vote. If Johnson is unable to swing either of the defectors, he doesn't win the Speaker vote — assuming Democratic members don't lend their support. U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, is at least one who has withheld his support for Johnson thus far and told Fox News there were others. He has suggested alternative Speaker options of Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., or Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, both of whom have previously m...

Hegseth, Trump’s Sec. of Defense pick, is ‘good man, committed to America’, U.S. Rep.-elect Crank says

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice While half of the eight Coloradans in the U.S. House are Republican, when it comes down to a vote on confirming President Donald J. Trump's nominees, it is unlikely anyone can depend on one from Colorado senators. "There are lots of Republicans who voted to confirm all or most of Joe Biden's cabinet, and that's the way it should work," said new U.S. Rep.-elect Jeff Crank, a Republican, of Colorado Springs' 5th District during an appearance on the Dan Caplis Show. https://twitter.com/jeffcrank/status/1864718732997841189 He is joined in the U.S. House by Republican U.S. Reps. Lauren Boebert (4th District), Gabe Evans (8th District) and Jeff Hurd (3rd District). The U.S. Senate holds the advise and consent approval power over nominees, mean...

Jeff Crank: Biden should ‘resign immediately’ or the cabinet should ‘invoke the 25th Amendment’

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Jeff Crank, the Republican nominee for Colorado's 5th District seat in Congress, has called for President Joe Biden to resign or be removed from office. "Despite an all-out effort to hide Joe Biden's failing health, Democrats turned on him when they saw they could lose power," Crank wrote Sunday on Twitter/X following Biden's announcement he would suspend his campaign for re-election, but finish out his first term in office. Mr. Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris for the Democratic Party's nomination, although some key and powerful players in the party have not. "The President admits he can't run for re-election, but somehow thinks he can run the government," Crank wrote on Twitter/X. "The President must resign immediately, or the cabinet mu...

Big money filtering into 5th District Republican race for Congress

By Sandra Fish | The Colorado Sun The Republican primary in Colorado’s 5th Congressional District is becoming a battle for the soul of the GOP, with conservative groups spending $1.3 million and counting to beat state party chairman Dave Williams, who has been endorsed by Donald Trump. Williams is running against conservative commentator and activist Jeff Crank, who has been endorsed by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, in the El Paso County district where U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colorado Springs, is retiring at the end of his ninth term. Whoever wins the primary is almost certain to win the general election in the highly Republican district.  That’s why the 5th District spending by outside political groups, more than what’s spent by outside groups in any of the state’s othe...

Primary Election ’24: In 5th District, both Democratic and Republican races are opposed

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice In Colorado's 5th District, both Republican and Democratic registered voters will be asked to weigh in on contested races for their party's nomination to the general election ballot. U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn announced earlier this year his decision to retire at the conclusion of his term, setting up an open-seat election for the central and southern Colorado district. Ballots began hitting the mailstream Monday in the state's primary election and must be mailed to all registered voters by Friday. Election Day is June 25. In the 5th District Republican Party primary election, the decision is between Jeff Crank and Dave Williams. Crank twice previously opposed Lamborn for the seat and the vice president of Americans for Prosperity is back for ...
