Biden impeachment hearing to happen ‘with or without’ Hunter, Comer says

By Ashley Oliver | Colorado Springs Gazette House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) told Hunter Biden he still plans to hold an impeachment inquiry hearing next week after the first son declined an invitation to appear as a witness. Comer also asked Biden, according to a letter published Friday, to reconsider his decision not to attend after Biden this week reneged on his offer to testify in a public setting. Biden had initially said he only wanted to testify publicly amid pressure from House lawmakers to appear for a closed-door deposition, but the first son eventually relented and appeared for a deposition last month. ‘I did not involve my father in my business,’ Hunter Biden says during impeachment testimony

By MYCHAEL SCHNELL | The Hill Hunter Biden testified Wednesday that he “did not involve” his father, President Biden, in his business dealings, delivering the message at the beginning of his highly anticipated deposition as part of the GOP’s impeachment inquiry into the president. “I am here today to provide the committees with the one uncontestable fact that should end the false premise of this inquiry: I did not involve my father in my business. Not while I was a practicing lawyer, not in my investments or transactions domestic or international, not as a board member, and not as an artist. Never,” Biden said during his opening statement. “My testimony today should put an end to this baseless and destructive political charade,” he later added. “You have wasted valuable time and r...

Ken Buck, three other Republicans thwart effort to impeach Homeland Security Sec. Mayorkas

By Anna Giaritelli  | The Gazette House Republicans failed to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in a contentious vote Tuesday that will temporarily spare the Cabinet official from facing removal proceedings. Lawmakers voted by a narrow margin of 214-216 to reject the articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, who was confirmed by the Senate in February 2023 to lead the department’s 260,000 employees. GOP Reps. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Blake Moore (R-UT), and Ken Buck (R-CO) were the only members to break with the party and vote in defense of Mayorkas. All Democrats voted against the impeachment articles. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE GAZETTE

Republicans skeptical the ‘case has been made’ to push Biden impeachment into reality

By Jack Birle | Denver Gazette As House Republicans move one step closer to impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, more members of the House GOP conference are skeptical about impeaching his boss. The House GOP has dedicated a significant portion of its current stint in control of the chamber exploring and hyping up impeaching President Joe Biden, but some within the conference still think the case has yet to be made to the public. “While I think that it’s pretty clear, I don’t know that the case has been made adequately to the American people,” Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) said, according to CNN. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DENVER GAZETTE

‘It’s wrong, and we should not set this precedent,’ Rep. Buck says on Mayorkas impeachment

By Asher Notheis | The Gazette Rep. Ken Buck, R-Windsor, announced Thursday that he will not support an impeachment measure against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, putting the measure of impeachment at risk of not having enough votes to pass. The impeachment measure against Mayorkas is being pursued by House Republicans over the secretary's handling of the southern border. Buck, who previously said that he was undecided on whether he would support impeaching Mayorkas, explained that he would not support such a measure because Mayorkas's handling of the border is "a policy difference," not a "high crime." "Let me from the outset say there is a crisis on the border, the law needs to be enforced," Buck said. "But if we start going down th...
