The 24-page document is essentially a 15-step "how-to" guide, but its usefulness may be questionable as other metro area communities have made clear that the Mile High City is on its own. The proposed budget cuts' next stop is the full City Council.     The budget cuts include a hiring freeze and service reductions. Early in the crisis, Denver officials decided the city would assume the responsibility to temporarily house, feed and transport arriving immigrants. By Alex Edwards | Colorado Politics Denver taxpayers are on the hook for $90 million this fiscal year to pay for the city's response to the illegal immigration crisis that has been spilling over into America's interior cities from the southern border.  That's the latest estimate from Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s administration, which earlier said the city was poised to spend $180 million on the crisis and revised that number down to $120 million. Early in the crisis, Denver officials decided the city would assume the responsibility to temporarily house, feed and transport arriving immigrants. The Board of El Paso County Commissioners at its regular meeting Tuesday will consider a resolution authorizing litigation against the state. If approved, the county would officially object to two state bills passed in 2019 and 2023 that prohibit local law enforcement, including the El Paso County sheriff, from arresting or detaining individuals based on a civil immigration detainer. The new ordinance simultaneously targets so-called “sanctuary” cities and efforts lawmakers around the country have made to offload immigrants elsewhere. On March 18, the three-judge panel in the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that the restriction on the rights of Jesus Perez-Garcia and John Thomas Fencl to bear firearms is constitutional because it is consistent with historic legal precedent. While these are two separate cases, with Judge Gonzalo Paul Curiel ruling on Mr. Perez-Garcia’s case on Dec. 2, 2022, and Judge Janis Lynn Sammartino ruling on Mr. Fencl’s case on Dec. 7, 2022, both men brought their legal challenge before the federal appeals court on Jan. 26, 2023.
