Rep. Crank’s BLOC Act gains Mesa County’s support: “Align federal funds with public safety”

By Jen Schumann | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice Mesa County commissioners want federal dollars tied to immigration enforcement—and they’re backing Rep. Jeff Crank’s bill to make it happen. During their April 15 administrative hearing, the Mesa County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a letter backing a federal immigration bill that would strip transportation funding from sanctuary jurisdictions that fail to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The letter, addressed to U.S. Rep. Jeff Crank, voiced support for H.R. 1984—the Blocking Lawless Open Border Cities (BLOC) Act. The bill halts funding of federal transportation dollars going to cities and counties that refuse to notify ICE at least 48 hours before they release an illegal immigrant. Rep. ...

In first 100 days, Evans introduces six bills focused on fraud, safety and immigration

RMV Staff | RMV NE CO Newsroom, Rocky Mountain Voice Colorado’s 8th Congressional District—a nationally watched swing district—just saw its freshman Congressman, Gabe Evans, cross the 100-day threshold in office. The milestone highlights a flurry of legislative action, bipartisan wins, and scrutiny over constituent accessibility. Evans, a Republican and former law enforcement officer and Army veteran, has moved quickly since being sworn in. “By contrast, it took my predecessor up until August before she had six bills,” Evans told FOX31. “So we are doing the work and delivering the work for constituents. I look forward to continuing to engage with them, hear their problems, and do what we can to solve them.” Six bills, five bipartisan, three out of committee Denver7 reported tha...

Immigrant protection bill passes committee, limits law enforcement cooperation with feds

By Gabrielle Franklin | Fox31 DENVER (KDVR) — A bill meant to better protect immigrants under Colorado law passed through a Colorado Senate committee Tuesday. Supporters of the bill say it looks to ensure everyone’s civil rights are protected regardless of immigration status, while opponents argue it further prohibits the state from helping federal agents. “Fear is contagious, isolating and destructive. We’ve seen President Trump weaponize fear time and time again against immigrants. Donald Trump’s ICE agents say one thing and then they do another,” said state Senator Julie Gonzales when talking about who the administration is targeting for deportations through Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. A newly introduced bill at the state capitol covers a lot of ter...

12 deportations later, ICE detains trucker who killed Colorado man

By Landon Mion | Fox News A suspected illegal immigrant convicted in a deadly Colorado crash last year involving a semi-truck he was driving was detained on Sunday by federal immigration authorities. Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza, 47, a Mexican national, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the lobby of the Jefferson County Detention Center shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, immediately after his release from jail, according to Denver7. Cruz-Mendoza was the driver of a semi-truck involved in a June 2024 crash on Highway 285, which left one man dead. He pleaded guilty to one count of careless driving resulting in death and three counts of careless driving resulting in injury. He was sentenced to about one year in jail. According to authori...

Denver Arrest Warrant Raises Stakes for Controversial Aurora Property Manager

By Bennito L. Kelty | Westword Called "out-of-state slumlords" by Aurora's mayor, the owners of CBZ Management are now wanted in Denver months after entering the public spotlight. The owners of CBZ Management, a controversial property management firm, have a warrant out for their arrests for failing to appear in Denver court on March 10, to resolve fines for property code violations. An arrest warrant issued by a Denver County judge raises the stakes for the Brooklyn-based property owners, who triggered a media storm in Aurora after they blamed the abysmal conditions at their apartment complexes on a violent Venezuelan gang takeover. The warrant was issued for Zev and Shmaryahu Baumgarten after the two failed to appear for a deposition hearing as the owners of CBZ Man...

Texas Republican: Selena Gomez’s ‘crocodile tears’ a ‘PR stunt’

By Judy Kurtz | The Hill A Texas Republican is accusing Selena Gomez of crying “crocodile tears” in a since-deleted video of the star sobbing that was posted amid the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.  “@SelenaGomez’s crocodile tears aren’t for deportations — it’s a PR stunt to distract @TheAcademy from Hispanics HATING her movie,” Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas) said on the social platform X on Monday. In the clip that had appeared on Gomez’s Instagram page before reportedly being removed on Monday, the “Only Murders in the Building” star was seen wiping away tears as she said, “All my people are getting attacked,” with an image of the Mexican flag appearing onscreen.  READ THE FULL STORY ON THE HILL

Allen: Minors are the greatest victims of America’s border crisis

By Virginia Allen, Commentary | Daily Signal Lying among the 16 or 17 dead bodies, Tom Homan spotted the corpse of a little boy, only 5 years old. The child died inside a sweltering truck trailer in Victoria, Texas, while being smuggled into the U.S. in May 2003. These are the memories that today’s images from the border evoke in Homan, a father himself. Children are victims here, not only of America’s broken immigration system and wide-open border, but also of the ruthless cartels that see children—particularly unaccompanied children—as a resource to exploit. Homan was working for the newly formed Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the time that trailer was discovered. ICE is an agency he would later serve as the acting director of in the Trump admini...

Migrant crisis cost $150B in 2023, forcing some areas to cut police and fire services: report

By Isabel Vincent | New York Post The eye-watering financial cost of the migrant crisis hit $150 billion last year and is causing devastating consequences for residents of hard-hit cities struggling to cope with the influx, The Post has learned. Of that figure, calculated by Washington DC-based non-profit Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), $67 billion came from the federal government, but the majority of the burden was shouldered by states and local governments. Could illegal immigration sway elections in swing states?

By Unleash Prosperity Our friend Jon Sutz has reported in his “Fact Check” blog that illegal immigration numbers have roughly quadrupled in the seven swing states under Biden. Funny how that was allowed to happen. As we’ve noted in previous HOTLINE issues, if even a small fraction of these non-citizens cast ballots in the razor-tight races in these battleground states, it could decide who the next president is. Makes you wonder why liberals are so opposed to requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration. READ THE FULL STORY AT UNLEASH PROSPERITY

Biden-Harris Administration has no clue how many unvetted aliens it let in

By Helen Raleigh  | The Federalist The IG report is the latest evidence that America’s illegal immigration crisis is the direct result of Biden and Harris’ policies. The inspector general of the Department of Homeland Security issued a new report revealing that the Biden-Harris administration has endangered Americans’ safety by intentionally welcoming millions of illegal immigrants into the U.S. without properly vetting them. The importance of these findings cannot be ignored, as they directly affect our personal and national security. The redacted report’s long title is also its conclusion: “CBP, ICE, and TSA Did Not Fully Assess Risks Associated with Releasing Noncitizens without Identification into the United States and Allowing Them to Travel on Domestic Flights.” Among the th...
