Recount ordered in House District 19; Results of HD16 and HD19 recounts due Dec. 6

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice The second of two recounts which will decide whether Republicans have erased the Democratic supermajority in the Colorado House has been ordered by Secretary of State Jena Griswold's office. Following the order of a recount Monday in House District 16, Griswold, as expected, ordered the recount in House District 19 later this week. After the tabulation of 56,729 votes in the Boulder and Weld County state House District 19 race, Republican Dan Woog was 109 votes ahead of Democrat Jillaire McMillan, by a margin of 20 one-hundredths of 1 percent of the vote, or 0.2%. State law requires a recount of an election with a margin of victory between the two leading candidates of less than half of 1 percent, or a 0.5% margin. "The counties within thi...

Colorado House Republicans celebrate election of Keltie, Woog in elimination of Dems’ supermajority

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Colorado House Republicans are celebrating the election of Rebecca Keltie and Dan Woog in their close District 16 and 19 races, which would erase Democrats' supermajority in the House. https://twitter.com/COHouseGOP/status/1857283274801877188 As of Friday morning, Keltie held a 7-vote lead over Democrat Steph Vigil in the District 16 race in El Paso County. The victories would give Republicans 22 seats in the 65-seat Colorado House of Representatives. “Colorado voters spoke loudly, supporting two common-sense leaders in Dan Woog and Rebecca Keltie,” House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese said in a statement, declaring both...

Update: Republican Dan Woog expands lead in tight House District 19 overnight

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice In a race Republican Dan Woog once trailed, he is beginning to look like a winner by continuing to add votes to a tight margin. His lead grew by 21 votes as of Wednesday morning to a margin of 228 votes over Democrat Jillaire McMillan in House District 19, which includes electorate in Boulder and Weld counties. On Tuesday evening, a Colorado House Republican strategist termed the race still too close to call. Woog holds 50.2% of 55,686 votes. He added 0.02%, or two-hundredths of a percent, to his margin since late Tuesday. Republican strategist to grassroots: ‘Help cure ballots’ in tight HD 16, 19 races

Republicans Rebecca Keltie, Dan Woog can eliminate Democrats' Colorado House supermajority with wins By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice If Republicans are able to hang on to razor-thin leads in two Colorado House races, it would prevent veto-proof Democrat supermajorities in both state legislative chambers. As of late Tuesday, Republican Rebecca Keltie led Democrat Steph Vigil by 21 votes in House District 16, while Republican Dan Woog led Democrat Jillaire McMillan by 207 votes in House District 19. "These two races are still too close to call and will come down to the wire," said Tyler Sandberg, chief campaign strategist for Colorado House Republicans. The El Paso County House District 16 was separated Monday evening by 0.06%, or six one-hundredths of one percent after...

Ryan Gonzalez hands GOP win in HD50; Tight races for Woog in HD19, Keltie in HD16

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Ryan Gonzalez has won a reliably blue Weld County seat, and two other races remaining that are too close to call could potentially help pull Republicans out of a superminority in the Colorado House. The 29-year-old Republican defeated three-term Democrat Mary Young by 554 votes in House District 50, outside the trigger for a mandatory recount. As of Monday, Gonzalez held 51.1% of the 25,606 votes, with Young holding 48.9%. Gonzalez initially trailed on Election Night, but continued to cut into the margin and eventually took a lead over Young late last week. That margin doubled over the weekend. It is a significant win for Republicans, considering the seat has been in Democratic Party control since 2005. It secured a plus-one-seat gain for ...

Two emerge to be selected by vacancy committee to appear on ballot as Democratic candidate for HD19

By Marissa Ventrelli  | Colorado Politics A vacancy committee will meet on Thursday to select a candidate to replace Rep. Jennifer Parenti, D-Erie, in the House District 19 election. Parenti announced she was dropping out of the race last month.  In a letter announcing her departure, Parenti cited the prevalence of "personal agendas and special interests" in the legislature, which she said made it hard for her to maintain her sense of integrity.  Two candidates, Anil Pesaramelli and James Reed, are now vying to represent the Democratic Party in the November election. Pesaramelli, a software engineer at Kaiser Permanente, previously ran for the Boulder Valley School District School Board. Reed, an IT professional, also has experience on the board, having served ...
