The issue is so pressing that politicians can single-handedly run a campaign on the hot topic. Groceries are essential to single people and families alike, and have a great impact on day-to-day living, and geography can play a large part in determining prices for local goods. Lending Tree, an online lending marketplace, performed a study on how much each state is spending on groceries per year. Bill to stop growing number of grocers from selling booze passes key House committee

By David Migoya | Denver Gazette The unanimous vote virtually assures a smooth path for legislation that would put hard brakes on the quickly expanding sale of spirits outside of local liquor stores. Colorado’s independent liquor stores won a resounding victory Thursday as a state House committee unanimously approved a bill that would freeze any increase to the number of grocery stores selling hard booze. The House Business Affairs and Labor Committee passed Senate Bill 25-33 by a 13-0 bipartisan vote, virtually assuring a smooth path for legislation that would put hard brakes on the quickly expanding sale of spirits outside of local liquor stores. Could your Safeway be sold soon? See 89 Colorado stores on planned sale list

By Samantha Jarpe | Fox 31 News Albertsons Companies, which owns 103 Safeway stores in the state of Colorado, released a list of 91 stores across the state it plans to sell if a planned merger between the company and Kroger is approved. Of these, two are Albertsons-branded stores and 89 are Safeway-branded stores. With 103 Safeway stores in the state, that means that all but 14 Safeway stores in the state would be sold to C&S Wholesale Grocers, a New Hampshire-based company. This includes all locations within Denver, Aurora and Boulder, among many more. According to a divestiture plan released by the two companies in April, C&S Wholesale would license the Safeway brand in Colorado, meaning the stores would likely not have to rebrand if the deal goes through.
