White House touts $3.49 gas, a 1-cent savings from last July 4th

By JAMIE JOSEPH | Fox Business The White House boasted a one-cent decrease in the nation's year-over-year gas prices on Thursday, the "lowest holiday price" since the previous Fourth of July.  "'July 4th gas prices expected to hit lowest level in 3 years,'" White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said in a post on X.  The projection comes from a GasBuddy estimate this week which claimed the $3.49 average cost for gas this Independence Day represents over a $1.30 decline compared to 2022.  "For those hitting the road to celebrate Independence Day, gas prices have seen modest recent fluctuations, but most states are seeing prices near or even well below where they were a year ago," Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a news release. "While the firs...

Biden releasing 1 million barrels of gasoline from Northeast reserve in bid to lower prices at pump

By Matthew Daly  | The Washington Times The Biden administration said Tuesday that it is releasing 1 million barrels of gasoline from a Northeast reserve established after Superstorm Sandy in a bid to lower prices at the pump this summer. The sale, from storage sites in New Jersey and Maine, will be allocated in increments of 100,000 barrels at a time. The approach will create a competitive bidding process that ensures gasoline can flow into local retailers ahead of the July 4 holiday and sold at competitive prices, the Energy Department said. The move is intended to help “lower costs for American families and consumers,″ the department said in a statement. Gas prices average about $3.60 per gallon nationwide as of Tuesday, up 6 cents from a year ago, according to AAA. T...

Transition to reformulated gas in nine Front Range counties will result in price increase there. How high will it go?

By Michael Booth | The Colorado Sun Keep an eye on gas prices in the next few weeks, Colorado, and you can watch a major policy battle play out between an extremely irritated Gov. Jared Polis and officials enforcing the federal Clean Air Act.  Colorado has a big problem with toxic ground-level ozone in the nine-county northern Front Range area that the Environmental Protection Agency has declared in “severe” violation of Clean Air Act ozone limits. When an area hits “severe,” the Clean Air Act requires all gas stations in that area to begin selling “reformulated” gas during the summer ozone season, beginning June 1.  Reformulated gas, according to the EPA, can cut back on ozone-causing emissions because it’s denser and doesn’t evaporate as quickly in hot weather. Po...

Get ready for $5-a-gallon gasoline as result of gains in crude oil pricing

Charley Blaine | The Street Ah, summertime. The sun will be out. The days will be warm and long.  For many of us, it'll be just the time to load up the kids into the family van and head off to Maine, Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes, or maybe Walt Disney World.  But be ready. There's a chance you will be looking at paying even more than you are now to fill up at a gas station (assuming you aren't driving an electric vehicle).  Don't be too surprised if you see $5 a gallon or more at the gas pump — if you're not paying that much already.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE STREET

AAA projects an uptick in spring pricing related to market conditions, Ukraine targeting of Russian oil infrastructure By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice The trip to the grocery store or from the Western Slope into the mountains for a getaway could cost you a bit more than anticipated this spring, AAA is projecting in an April 1 report. In Colorado, a gallon of regular gasoline was priced at an average of $3.07 on Monday, about the same as a week prior and 13 cents higher than a month ago, data on the AAA gas price monitor reads. Those with diesel vehicles presently are getting a little bit of a break, with the current average of $3.69 coming in at 9 cents below the month-ago average. “Uncertainty of the impact of Ukraine’s targeting of Russia’s oil infrastructure like...

Could $4 a gallon gasoline be back before Presidential Election Day?

By Charley Blaine | The Street Oil and gasoline prices have distinct seasonal patterns, up after the first of the year up until some time in the summer.  The big questions for this year are:  How high will crude oil prices go?  Will gasoline prices hit startling levels? After peaking and sliding into the end of the year, what happens next might be more painful than you expect. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE STREET
