By Marianne Goodland | Colorado Politics Sen. Faith Winter, D-Westminster, publicly apologized in the state Senate on Friday over problems tied to alcohol abuse. Last July, a Senate ethics committee decided Winter had violated a Senate ethics rule when residents said she showed up drunk at a public meeting in Thornton on April 3. The ethics committee concluded, 4-1, that Winter violated Rule 41, which requires her, as a member of the Senate, to perform her “legislative duties at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and independence of the Senate and of the General Assembly.” READ THE FULL STORY AT COLORADO POLITICS

Colorado ethics panel finds probable cause to investigate lawmaker accused of intoxication

By Marissa Ventrelli  | Colorado Politics A Senate panel on Thursday decided to investigate the actions of a legislator accused of showing up intoxicated at a city council meeting in her district.  The panel unanimously agreed that a probable cause exists to look into an ethics complaint filed by the Northglenn City Council against Sen. Faith Winter, D-Westminster, for her behavior during the April meeting.  Northglenn's councilmembers alleged that Winter failed to uphold her duties as a senator when she appeared to be intoxicated on April 3, in which the city council and residents discussed a proposal to locate a behavioral center in Northglenn. Faith Winter, a top Senate Democrat, seeking treatment after appearing intoxicated at Wednesday meeting

By Jesse Paul | The Colorado Sun Assistant Senate Majority Leader Faith Winter, the No. 3 Democrat in the Colorado Senate, is seeking medical treatment for substance abuse, she told The Colorado Sun on Thursday. Winter is specifically seeking assistance with alcoholism.  The Broomfield lawmaker’s decision comes after she appeared to be intoxicated Wednesday evening as she attended a community hearing in Northglenn about a state plan to open a controversial mental health transitional living facility that could house people convicted of sex offenses.
