In Douglas County address, Lt. Col. West urges Republicans to fight for liberty, not amongst selves

By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice DENVER – The present state of Colorado is a microcosm of happenings in states across the nation, and Republicans must react to preserve liberty, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Allen West (ret.) told those gathered here Sunday at the Douglas County Republican Party’s Lincoln Dinner. “Colorado is very important for the rest of the nation,” he said. “What is happening in Colorado is what you see happening in states across the nation. The left targeted Denver, Boulder and now Colorado Springs. A strong, red state went purple and then blue.” West served a term in Congress from 2011-2013 in Florida’s 22nd District and also as chairman of the Texas Republican Party from 2020-2021, following a decorated 21-year military career including deployments to Kuwait...

What is a scorecard and should it matter to voters?

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice When voting delegates are considering their preferred candidates to support through county caucuses and ultimately at the Republican Assembly, there may be many issues of importance delegates could take into mind in representation of voters. Positions on the economy, immigration, peace abroad, energy independence, taxes and the national debt are just but a few of those. In a few recent 4th Congressional District forums, one legislative scorecard has been noted – this one a measurement of the conservative outlook a candidate may have toward legislation. The Rocky Mountain Voice decided to fact check and provide the results. Following is a glance at some scorecard results and how candidates in various races have fared. Not all candidates in ...

Lara Trump promises no more flowers, focus on electing GOP nominee as top priorities for RNC she’s rumored to be preparing to run

By Timothy H.J. Nerozzi  | Fox News Former President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law is promising that all the Republican National Committee's (RNC) finances will be poured into getting him re-elected if she is made co-chair of the committee. Lara Trump, who the former president has pushed as a potential co-chair of the RNC, told reporters on Tuesday that "every single penny" would go to the campaign effort if she were appointed.  "The RNC needs to be the leanest, most lethal political fighting machine we’ve ever seen in American history," Lara Trump told Newsmax. "That is the goal over the next nine-and-a-half months. If I am elected to this position, I can assure you, there will not be any more $70,000 – or whatever exorbitant amount of money it was – spent on flowers."...

‘American elections should be decided by American citizens – full stop’: RNC wins suit to prevent non-citizens from voting in NY

By Spencer Brown | Townhall.com A lawsuit in New York led by the Republican National Committee saw sanity prevail when an appellate court ruled that no, non-U.S. citizens cannot vote in our elections. If the absurd policy had been allowed to stand, some 900,000 non-citizens to cast votes in municipal elections in the Big Apple.  In a 43-page order in Fossella v Adams, Associate Justice Paul Wooten of the Appellate Division for the Second Judicial Department in New York announced the decision that "the Local Law is null and void on the grounds that it violates the New York State Constitution and the Municipal Home Rule Law." RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel emphasized that "American elections should be decided by American citizens – full stop," in a statement provided to Townhall. ...

Q&A with Heather Graham | Pueblo’s new mayor aims to set narrative for Colorado city

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics Heather Graham was sworn in as only the second mayor of Pueblo in more than a century on Feb. 1, following the first-term, at-large city council member's nearly 25-point win in a runoff against the incumbent mayor, Nick Gradisar. A Pueblo native and registered Republican, Graham traces her political awakening to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when she organized protests over city policies that restricted operations at her three restaurants — Ruby's Wine Bar and two Graham's Grills. Known for its namesake Pueblo chile and as the Home of Heroes — it's the hometown of four Congressional Medal of Honor recipients — Pueblo is Colorado's ninth-largest city, with a current estimated population of just over 110,000 putting it behind Westminster an...

Cory Gardner reenters Colorado political conversation to make endorsement in crowded 4th Congressional District race

By Jesse Paul | Colorado Sun Cory Gardner reentered Colorado’s political conversation Wednesday to endorse former state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg in the crowded Republican primary in the state’s 4th Congressional District, a race that includes U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert.  “Jerry Sonnenberg is the conservative conscience of the 4th Congressional District,” Gardner, a former U.S. senator from eastern Colorado who lost his reelection bid in 2020, said in a written statement. “He will be a passionate and dedicated warrior for our nation and our shared conservative values.” Gardner represented the 4th District from 2011 to 2015 before he was elected to the Senate. He’s mostly shied away from the public spotlight since leaving Congress in early 2021, making his endorsement more notable. ...

Republican Nathan Butler will seek to unseat Rep. Lukens in Colorado House’s 26th District

By Elliott Wenzler  | Steamboat Pilot A Republican candidate has filed to oppose Democratic state Rep. Meghan Lukens as she runs for re-election to represent the competitive 26th district of the Colorado House, which covers the northwest corner of the state and narrowly favors Democrats.  Nathan Butler, who is an Army veteran, was elected to the Craig City Council in November.  House District 26 encompasses Rio Blanco, Moffat and Routt counties and most of Eagle County. Its population is about 28% registered Republicans and 23% registered Democrats. The largest voting block, like in many parts of the state, is the 48% of the population that is unaffiliated with either party.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE STEAMBOAT PILOT

Editorial: Nearly a dozen Republicans want to go to Congress in 4th District

By Rocky Mountain Voice Editorial Board The issue: Colorado’s 4th Congressional District will offer a field of 11 Republican candidates and 17 candidates total for a seat in Congress. We say: A field this large will be difficult to navigate. Get to know the candidates, their values and positions. Ultimately, delegates and then voters will be tasked with selecting one person to send to Washington, D.C. A five-minute opportunity for Congressional candidates to state their case to prospective voters drew a capacity crowd Sunday evening in Windsor at the President's Day Celebration, hosted by the Colorado Conservative Patriot Alliance, in American Legion Post No. 109. Five minutes. That’s 300 seconds. Not exactly an eternity. Then again, anyone unfamiliar with Colorado’s 4th Con...
