In another flip-flop, when Biden was running Dems wanted closed-mic, but now Harris seeks open-mic

By Olivia Land | Washington Examiner A lot has changed since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and was replaced as Democratic nominee by Vice President Kamala Harris. The latest change: Back when Biden was the presumptive nominee, Democrats did not want to be interrupted by former President Donald Trump during a debate. Now under Harris, they do. That’s the main takeaway from Monday’s back-and-forth about whether the first presidential debate should be open-mic night. The original debate ground rules banned interruptions and crosstalk to the point that the networks could turn off the microphone of any candidate who tried to go beyond their allotted speaking time. House GOP navigates multiple investigations into Trump assassination attempt

By Aubrie Spady | Politco Speaker Mike Johnson quickly moved last month to launch a bipartisan investigation into the assassination attempt against Donald Trump. House conservatives made it clear on Monday that they have their own ideas. Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries each appointed members late last month to a task force that is aimed at identifying failures that led to the shooting and preventing such an incident from happening again. The panel was unanimously approved by House lawmakers, has subpoena power and effectively took over investigations related to the assassination attempt, a way to theoretically prevent multiple unwieldy probes. Tulsi Gabbard, who once ran as Democrat for President, endorses Trump in 2024 race

By Aubrie Spady | Fox News Democrat-turned Independent Tulsi Gabbard, the former congresswoman from Hawaii, has endorsed former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race against Vice President Kamala Harris. "We as Americans must stand together to reject this anti-freedom culture of political retaliation and abuse of power. We can't allow our country to be destroyed by politicians who will put their own power ahead of the interests of the American people, our freedom, and our future," Gabbard said at the National Guard conference in Detroit on Monday. Gabbard's endorsement came on the third anniversary of the suicide bombing that killed 13 U.S. service members following the chaotic Afghanistan War withdrawal. READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX NEWS

Why Thomas Crooks, the would-be Trump assassin, continues to baffle and frustrate weeks after the shooting

By Barbra Surk | New York Post Five weeks since the first attempted assassination of a current or former president in over 40 years, the public still has precious few answers about 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks. Since his identity became known, the FBI and members of Congress have been trying to piece together a motive, scrutinizing every aspect of his life both online and off. Even in his hometown of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, a quiet suburb of Pittsburgh, neighbors say the Crooks family was always an enigma — and continues to be. “Everybody around here knows each other, but no one knows them,” said Karen, 77, who lives on the same street as the Crookses and asked that her last name not be used. “You can ask anybody on this street, they barely know...

Trump threatens to skip ABC News debate against Kamala Harris

By James Lynch | National Review Former president Donald Trump Sunday evening raised the possibility of skipping his upcoming ABC News debate against Vice President Kamala Harris because of the network’s apparent bias against him. “I watched ABC FAKE NEWS this morning, both lightweight reporter Jonathan Carl’s(K?) ridiculous and biased interview of Tom Cotton (who was fantastic!), and their so-called Panel of Trump Haters, and I ask, why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?” Trump wrote on Truth Social. ABC reporter Jonathan Karl’s Sunday interview with Senator Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) went viral after Karl tried defending Harris’s past support for ending private health insurance, a progressive position she took during her failed ...

Secret Service places agents on leave after Trump assassination attempt

By Rachel Schilke | Washington Examiner The Secret Service placed multiple personnel on leave following the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump at a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The agency placed five people on leave, a source familiar told news outlets on Friday: one person from Trump’s personal protective team and four from the Pittsburgh field office, including the special agent in charge. RealClearPolitics reported details of the disciplinary steps on Thursday. The Secret Service declined to comment on the reports but said it “holds our personnel to the highest professional standards” in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “The U.S. Secret Service is committed to investigating the decisions and ...

Hillman: For Trump to win, he must be disciplined

By Mark Hillman | Commentary, MarkHillman.com In a close election, everything matters.  Just ask Hillary Clinton about taking Wisconsin and Michigan for granted in 2016. This election looks like another close one because some voters will enthusiastically vote for Donald Trump or Kamala Harris, but many others will again be voting against the candidate they dislike most. Based on recent polling, Trump has a base support of about 42%.  He can likely count on those voters no matter what.  Biden’s lowest numbers were similar, so Harris probably starts in the same or slightly better position depending on how long her media honeymoon lasts.  Support for third-party candidates has collapsed to 5% or less. A mere 10% of voters appear truly undecided.  If they v...

RFK Jr.’s possible alliance with Trump threatens to muddy election

By Hanna Trudo and Julia Mueller | The Hill The growing possibility that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could drop out and endorse former President Trump is injecting further chaos into an already unpredictable moment in the election. Kennedy’s allies emphasize that nothing is final yet, and members of his team are in disagreement over how to move forward. But the two campaigns have been negotiating this week, The Hill has learned, with one scenario having Kennedy drop out as early as Friday and back the former president. READ MORE ON THE HILL

Trump: Why didn’t ‘Marxist’ Kamala do anything for what she was complaining about?

By Jeff Poor | Breitbart Thursday, following Vice President Kamala Harris’ address to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, her opponent former President Donald Trump appeared on Fox News to respond to the speech. Trump maintained Harris had her entire vice-presidential term to solve what he called she was “complaining about” during her speech. “The biggest reaction is why didn’t she do the things she is complaining about?” Trump said. “All of these things that she’s talked about — we’re going to do this, we’re going to do that. We’re going to do everything. But she didn’t do any of it. She could have done it three-and-a-half years ago. She could do it tonight by leaving the auditorium and going to Washington D.C., and closing the border. She doesn’t need a bill. I didn’t...

Trump ends feud with swing-state governor he slammed as ‘disloyal’

By Emma Colton | Fox News Former President Donald Trump praised Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp for supporting his election effort in the key battleground state after previously slamming the Peach State's executive as "disloyal." "Thank you to @BrianKempGA for all of your help and support in Georgia, where a win is so important to the success of our Party and, most importantly, our Country," Trump posted to Truth Social on Thursday evening.  "I look forward to working with you, your team, and all of my friends in Georgia to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" The comments come after Trump repeatedly slammed the popular Georgia governor over the last four years for opposing Trump's challenge to the 2020 election results in the state. The final election results found Pre...
