Overheard in the control tower, the pilot on the plane said, "We will miss this place. A lot of memories." Denver International Airport unveils final phase of Great Hall renovation, lays out future projects

And while plenty of other renovation projects at the airport are now in their early stages, airport officials say those won't have nearly the same impact as the Great Hall renovation. DIA CEO Phil Washington unveiled plans and renderings for the final phase of the Great Hall Project on Tuesday, saying the remodeled terminal will showcase "the spirit of Colorado" and better serve passengers. By Jenny Deam and Carol McKinley | The Gazette Former top Colorado Bureau of Investigation forensic scientist, Yvonne "Missy" Woods, turned herself into Jefferson County authorities on Wednesday and was booked into jail on a 102-count felony indictment, according to county sources and court documents. Woods, 64, was being held in Jefferson County Jail on a $50,000 cash only bond, according to a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance at 10 a.m. on Thursday. In the 35-page indictment, Woods — who goes by Missy — faces felony charges that include attempt to influence a public servant, perjury, forgery and cybercrime, according to court documents. By Maddie Rhodes | Fox 31 News  The lost and found at the Denver International Airport became home to thousands of misplaced items in 2024, holding anything from lost luggage to unusual items like a bag with dried fish. According to the lost and found team at DIA, the airport collects around 200 lost items each day, and only 30-40% of the items make it back to their owners. But what those misplaced items are is a mixed bag. The most common lost items at the airport are bags, electronics and wallets. The airport also collected 2,646 earbuds that were turned into lost and found throughout 2024. However, the airport ended up seeing much more than luggage at its lost and found. In four days, wintry weather has canceled 250 flights, delayed 2,820 more at DIA

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice A four-day snow event in Denver and areas east of the Continental Divide has done more than dump some badly-needed moisture on half the state. It has greatly affected air travel. As of Tuesday mid-morning, there have been 2,820 flights delayed and 250 flights canceled since the beginning of the snow event on Saturday, according to Flight Aware. There has been some amount of snow accumulation each day. The heaviest cancelation day was Sunday, with 106; the heaviest day for delays was Saturday, with 1,119. Flight Aware breaks delays and cancelations related to an airport into outbound (departure) and inbound (arrival). During a review last year, city auditors made 10 recommendations to airport officials after determining that DIA lacked sufficient management and oversight of its three-phased Great Hall construction project. The follow-up report, published on Jan. 2, said the airport still is not following procurement procedures, proper document decision-making processes, or requiring contractors to submit documentation of actual costs. Leader of auto thefts from Colorado airport lots sentenced to prison

By  Logan Smith | CBS Colorado A 25-year-old man who police believe oversaw the theft of dozens of vehicles from the parking lots at Denver International Airport recently pleaded guilty and received a 20-year prison sentence. David Nava-Delgado led a "prolific" group that stole at least 59 vehicles from DIA lots between February 2022 and March 2023, according to prosecutors. The group often took Ford F-150 Raptors which they drove into the fronts of businesses to steal ATMs. They attempted or completed this type of burglary 31 times, per prosecutors.  The group also stole vehicles in Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Boulder, Denver, Jefferson County and Logan County.
