Castle Rock unanimously OK’s measure expressing support for Trump’s immigration policies

By Jesse Sarles | CBS Colorado The Castle Rock Town Council on Tuesday approved a measure expressing support for President-elect Donald Trump's immigration policies. The measure also expresses a willingness to lawfully cooperate with federal immigration officials in implementing policies in the Colorado municipality. All of the council at the evening meeting voted in favor of the resolution, except for one council person who abstained. Right before the vote, the council members referenced the violence that has been happening in Aurora at an apartment complex. Earlier this year the council voted unanimously to explore suing the city of Denver over its migrant policies. READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS COLORADO

Castle Rock passes measure supporting Trump’s deportation plan

By Noah Festenstein | Denver Gazette via Colorado Politics Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s response to the president-elect’s illegal immigration deportation strategy has prompted one Colorado town to push back — again. Since Johnston took office in July 2023, Denver has welcomed nearly 43,000 immigrants, most whom illegally crossed the southern border, into Colorado’s most populous city. Johnston, a Democrat, recently made national headlines when he told local news blog Denverite the city’s police and “50,000 Denverites” would not comply with President-elect Donald Trump’s plans to deport thousands of immigrants currently residing illegally in the Mile High City. Denver’s mayor even suggested he’d go to jail if necessary.  READ THE FULL STORY AT COLORADO POLITICS...

Castle Rock exploring legal action over Denver’s ‘failed’ immigrant policy

By Noah Festenstein | Colorado Politics Castle Rock's Town Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a motion to lay the groundwork to sue Colorado's most populous city over its immigration policies. A councilmember said Castle Rock needs to address the crisis in Denver that he said is spilling over into neighboring counties and cities. "I would like to direct (the) town attorney to begin conversations with Douglas County, the Douglas County attorney, and then also other municipalities around the Front Range that feel that they have been impacted negatively because of Denver's failed migrant policy," said Castle Rock Councilmember Max Brooks. Teen mental health facility gets go-ahead in Castle Rock, as neighbors worry about safety

By Olivia Young | CBS Colorado One Colorado town is making moves for youth mental health. Twenty percent of teens ages 12 to 17 reported suffering from one major depressive disorder in the last year, according to Sandstone Care. Now, the town council has voted to rezone a former assisted living facility to allow for a mental health treatment center serving teens. The soon-to-be Sandstone Care treatment facility is at 864 Barranca Drive in the Metzler Ranch neighborhood of Castle Rock. However, some nearby residents are worried about the safety concerns they say Sandstone Care will bring. "Great, now we gotta watch out for what's really gonna be happening, like crime and things like that," said Metzler Ranch neighbor Miles Negley. READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS COLORADO

Pine Canyon development will ’cause true impacts’, Castle Rock asks residents to weigh in

By Heather Willard | Fox 31 News The town of Castle Rock is opposing a new development that’s been proposed and the town is encouraging residents to weigh in on the plan. The Pine Canyon project is an urban-level development “in the heart of Castle Rock,” which would take over 530 acres of unincorporated Douglas County and add over 4,500 residents to the area. The acreage is nestled between The Woodlands neighborhood, Metzler Ranch and Red Hawk. According to Castle Rock, the area is “completely surrounded” by the town. “It is not possible to develop this property without causing true impacts to the Town of Castle Rock’s community and infrastructure,” Castle Rock’s Director of Development Tara Vargish and senior planner Sandy Vossler said in a letter to Douglas County’s c...

Rock Church gets injunction to temporarily continue housing homeless in RVs

By Olivia Young | CBS Colorado A federal judge has granted a preliminary injunction to a Colorado church that sued the town of Castle Rock after it was barred from sheltering the homeless. The judge's ruling allows the town to resume sheltering people on church property while the lawsuit proceeds, marking the first time since December that the town forced them to halt, citing a zoning violation. "So it's nothing fancy," said Mike Polhemus, pastor at the Rock Church, as he opened the door to an RV. READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS COLORADO
