Weld County Livestock Association to award $8,500 in college scholarships

By The Fence Post The Weld County Livestock Association will be awarding the $1,500 Sharon and Gene Inloes Scholarship, the $1,500 Willie Burbach Memorial Scholarship, the $2,500 Boyd Collins Memorial Scholarship, and two additional $1,500 college scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year. Boyd Collins, who passed away in 2023, was a longtime WCLA board member and officer. Willie Burbach, who also passed away in 2023, spent his career in the cattle industry. So much so, there are currently 1,100 classrooms — over 23,000 students — signed up, creating the need for an additional $20,000 in funding to avoid turning away students. Sisters Rachel (Linke) Allnut and McCall (Linke) Knecht worked together with their cousin, Sierra Linke, to create Seed, Sprout, Spice for the Colorado Agriculture in the Classroom project. Terry Fankhauser, among the state’s greatest advocates for the cattle industry, is being remembered by cattle raisers and dignitaries in Colorado for his unwavering devotion. Fankhauser died Monday, Jan. 29, following complications from a heart surgery. Hagstrom Report  | SOURCE: THE FENCE POST The Agriculture Department needs to collect, track, and better share data on foreign farmland ownership, but needs more money from Congress to do that, the Government Accountability Office said in a report released Thursday. GAO complained that USDA annually compiles its data from paper forms filed with headquarters or county offices, but Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has said that to make the system more accurate counties across the country would need to develop detailed systems to report to USDA.
