Harris rejects religious exemptions for abortion

By David Zimmermann  | National Review Vice President Kamala Harris said Tuesday night she would reject religious exemptions for abortion as president, effectively forcing health-care providers to perform the medical procedure in violation of their moral conscience. The Democratic presidential nominee has been adamant about passing a bill that would codify Roe v. Wade into law, despite the Supreme Court overturning that decision in 2022. In an interview with NBC News anchor Hallie Jackson, Harris indicated she would refuse to compromise with Republican lawmakers on the abortion legislation. “I don’t think we should be making concessions when we’re talking about a fundamental freedom to make decisions about your own body,” Harris said when asked if sh...

Supreme Court declines Biden administration appeal in Texas emergency abortion case

By Politico via the Associated Press The Supreme Court on Monday let stand a decision barring emergency abortions that violate the law in Texas, which has one of the country’s strictest abortion bans. Without detailing their reasoning, the justices kept in place a lower court order that said hospitals cannot be required to provide pregnancy terminations that would violate Texas law. There were no publicly noted dissents. The Biden administration had asked the justices to throw out the lower court order, arguing that hospitals have to perform abortions in emergency situations under federal law. The administration pointed to the Supreme Court’s action in a similar case from Idaho earlier this year in which the justices narrowly allowed emergency abortions to resume wh...

Oppose Amendment 79: Constitutional right to abortion

By Editorial Board | Editorial, Rocky Mountain Voice Ballot language: Shall there be a change to the Colorado Constitution recognizing the right to abortion, and, in connection therewith, prohibiting the state and local governments from denying, impeding, or discriminating against the exercise of that right, allowing abortion to be a covered service under health insurance plans for Colorado state and local government employees and for enrollees in state and local governmental insurance programs? How it reached the ballot: Citizen signature petition, designated agents Dusti Gurule and Dani Newsum. Background: This measure seeks to add the following language to the Colorado Constitution: "The right to abortion is herby recognized. Government shall not deny, impede or discriminate ag...

Pro-abortion, ranked choice groups rake in big bucks for November elections

By Marianne Goodland | Colorado Politics With five weeks to go until Election Day, the spending is ramping up for committees fighting for people's vote. And some interesting contributors have surfaced. Not surprisingly — and given the onslaught of television ads — Proposition 131, which deals with ranked choice voting, has brought in the biggest dollars. The measure would set up ranked choice voting and open primaries for Colorado elections. While both major political parties oppose the measure, it has been endorsed by Gov. Jared Polis, the League of Women Voters, and on Tuesday, by U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper. READ THE FULL STORY AT COLORADO POLITICS

Harris calls for eliminating filibuster to pass ‘Roe’ abortion bill into federal law

By Jamie Joseph  | Fox News Vice President Kamala Harris said she backs eliminating the 60-vote filibuster requirement in order to reinstate Roe v. Wade, which would federalize abortion access nationwide, during a Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) interview Tuesday.  The filibuster is a Senate rule that allows a minority to block legislation pending a supermajority vote, so ending it would make it easier to pass laws related to abortion rights. "I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe," Harris said on the "Wisconsin Today" show. "And get us to the point where 51 votes would be what we need to actually put back in law the protections for reproductive freedom and for the ability of every person and every woman to make decisions about their own body and...

Pueblo City Council meets for proposed abortion ordinance

By Carolynn Felling | Fox 21 News The topic of banning abortion centers in Pueblo was back at the center of a heated discussion during a Pueblo City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 23. In the meeting, three presentations were given touching on different abortion related topics. One of which is Amendment 79, a ballot measure that would create a right to abortion in Colorado and repeal the State Constitution’s ban on government funds for abortion. “I want to start by saying the only reason that we’re here having this hearing is because people’s feelings are hurt, that they can’t control women’s choices and bodies,” said City Council woman Sarah Martinez, District 3. Barnhart: Two years ago, today, Supreme Court ruled favorably in the Dobbs case

By Faye Barnhart | Guest Columnist, Rocky Mountain Voice It has been two years since the seemingly impossible happened with the overturn of Roe v. Wade in the historic Dobbs decision. Taking a similar course to slavery in the United States, the Supreme Court had made an overarching dismissal of all 50 states laws that previous to 1973 limited or outlawed abortion in all the states. Even in Colorado -- the first notorious state for allowing abortion -- it was originally limited to 16 weeks and needed a three-panel of doctors and the permission of the husband. As archaic as that may sound, it shows how compromising with evil has gotten us to where we are today, where more than 2,000 children are legally tortured to death every month in Colorado, from conception through all nine months ...

Every state facing deceptive, unlimited abortion ballot measures this November

By JORDAN BOYD | The Federalist Democrats and their abortion giant allies want to legalize killing unborn babies throughout all nine months of gestation in every state. A majority of U.S. adults reject that position, but that fact hasn’t stopped the ballot measure battle that plagued Ohio last year from infiltrating several other states, including those controlled by Republicans, during the 2024 election cycle. Read about the iniotiatives on the ballot and which could be on the ballot, including in Colorado, here. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE FEDERALIST

Barnhart: Abortion doesn’t belong in Colorado’s Constitution

By Faye Barnhart | Guest Columnist Colorado has one of the most extreme laws in the world. It allows children to be poisoned, scalded, stabbed, starved, dismembered or otherwise inhumanely killed by any means from all nine months of pregnancy up to the point of birth. To call these “procedures” to end the life of a living human being “healthcare” would be laughable were it not so barbaric and tragic. Right now, Colorado allows the killing of children any time during the pregnancy.  And now, extremists want to put an amendment on the Colorado ballot requiring health insurance and taxpayer funds to pay for these practices and to be added to the Colorado Constitution as a “right”. Killing people has never been a right, nor should it ever be. Pregnancy and childbirth are healthy....
