In switcheroo called out by RMGO, Rep. Mauro cast anti-2A vote to get HB 1133 to floor before she voted against it

By Brian Porter | Rocky Mountain Voice In a matter of 12 days, Pueblo County Democrat Rep. Tisha Mauro cast a vote to place an ammunition ban on the Colorado House floor, and then voted against it on the floor in a switcheroo being criticized by Rocky Mountain Gun Owners. House Bill 1133, by Democrat Reps. Monica Duran and Lindsay Gilchrist, prohibits the sale of ammunition to anyone under the age of 21. It passed out of the House on final reading, 38-27, with five Democrats joining Republicans in opposition. https://twitter.com/RyanGonzalezCO/status/1894454630165463276 The bill would have died in the House's Business Affairs & Labor Committee if Mauro had been a pro-Second Amendment vote on Feb. 13, but by Feb. 25 she had supposedly become one. https://twitter.com/ia...

‘Let there be a run on guns’: Senate Democrats advance semiauto gun ban to Colorado House

By Brian Porter | Rocky Mountain Voice A debate Tuesday on the proper role of government and at what point constitutional liberty has been infringed, led by Senate Republicans, fell upon deaf ears. Senate Bill 25-003, what some deem to be the most overreaching gun-control proposal in the country, was passed by a 19-15 vote of the Democrat-dominated Senate and now heads to the Colorado House. If it were to clear the House, the bill would land on Gov. Jared Polis' desk. The bill, if it were to be signed into law, would allow for future purchase, sell or transfer of only certain semiauto firearms on a Democrat-submitted list and would create a de-facto gun owner registry through other requirements, such as mandatory hunter's and firearms education classes prior to purchase. "We ha...

Gun owners, 2A advocates asked to ‘stand up and fight’ during first caucus event

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice LOVELAND — A collection of state legislators, advocates and gun dealers gathered here Saturday at The Gallery Range & Restaurant in an effort to unify the state's 2nd Amendment supporters. "This is the first step we are a taking as a caucus," said state Rep. Ryan Armagost, who with Rep. Scott Bottoms chair the newly-formed 2nd Amendment Caucus in the Colorado House. "We're trying to get the word out on a lot of levels," Bottoms added. "What does it mean to be a firearms owner in Colorado?" They were joined by freshmen Reps. Rebecca Keltie, in El Paso County's District 16, and Larry Don Suckla, from the eight-county District 58 on the Western Slope. "I'm not just a gun advocate," Keltie said. "I support the 2nd Amendment. I believe i...

Fifth Circuit declares age restrictions on adult handgun purchases unconstitutional

By Christina van Waasbergen  | Courthouse News Service A Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals panel ruled Thursday that a decades-old federal law banning handgun purchases by 18 to 20-year-olds violates the Second Amendment. The ruling is an about-face from a prior ruling where the appeals court initially found the law constitutional in 2012. The three-judge panel attributed the switch up to the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark 2022 decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, which held that gun restrictions must be consistent with the historical tradition of firearm regulation in the U.S. "Ultimately, the text of the Second Amendment includes eighteen-to-twenty-year-old individuals among 'the people' whose right to keep and bear arms is protected. The fed...

New Colorado law requires guns in vehicles to be in locked containers

Rep. Thomas Massie, the 2024 keynote to RMGO, notes irony of President Biden pardon

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice In the wake of President Joe Biden pardoning his son, Hunter, for a variety of criminal offenses, including the unlawful purchase of a firearm, one 2nd Amendment advocate familiar to gun-owning Coloradans noted the irony. U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Kentucky, who was the keynote speaker this year at the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners' annual banquet, called upon Biden to expand the pardon in an effort for equal application of the law. "Since Joe Biden thinks a particular gun law shouldn’t be enforced for his son Hunter Biden, he should pardon everyone who’s been prosecuted under that same provision," Massey wrote on Twitter/X. https://twitter.com/RepThomasMassie/status/1863693757469659314 In addition to his role this year with RMGO, Massie ...

Biden-Harris admin declares ‘it’s time’ to ‘ban assault weapons’ after Kamala tries to say she’s pro-2A

By Thomas Stevenson| The Post Millennial Despite Vice President Kamala Harris sending the message throughout her 2024 campaign that she is pro-Second Amendment, the Biden-Harris administration has declared that now is the time to "ban" so-called "assault weapons." The Biden-Harris White House account posted on social media on Wednesday, "It's time" with a graphic saying "ban assault weapons."   Harris, however, has tried to paint herself as a supporter of gun rights since she has hit the campaign trail. In her 60 minutes interview: “I have a Glock and I’ve had it for quite some time,” Harris said. “My background is in law enforcement, so there you go.” She was then asked if she fired it ever, to which Harris laughed, claiming, “Yes, of course I have, at a shooting ...

U.S. Supreme Court justices weigh whether ghost guns can be regulated

By Maddie Biertempfel | Fox 31 News The Supreme Court heard its first arguments of the new term Tuesday.  In a case about whether gun-making kits can be regulated the same as traditional guns, Supreme Court justices turned to questions about omelets and meal kits.  “I put out on a counter some eggs, some chopped up ham, some chopped up pepper and onions. Is that a western omelet?” Justice Samuel Alito asked.  “No, because again, those items have well-known other uses…to become something other than an omelet,” U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar said.  READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX31 NEWS

Supreme Court docket includes ghost guns, a capital case and transgender rights

By Lindsay Whitehurst | CBS 11 News via the AP The Supreme Court is taking the bench again on Monday, ready to hear cases on ghost guns, a death sentence and transgender rights. The docket doesn’t have quite as many blockbuster cases on its docket as it did last term, when its rulings included an opinion granting broad immunity to former president Donald Trump. Still, it’s possible that the conservative-majority court could yet be asked to intervene in election disputes after the ballots are cast in November. READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS 11 NEWS
