Majority of suburban women in swing states say Harris lacks ‘viable solutions’ for economy: Poll

By Cami Mondeaux | Washington Examiner A majority of suburban women are expressing concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris’s ability to handle the economy, which is becoming one of the top voter concerns of the 2024 election.  About 72% of suburban women say the economy is a top priority for them heading into the election, according to a survey conducted by the Place America First super PAC that was first obtained by the Washington Examiner. Of those, 70% say Harris lacks “viable solutions” for the economy compared to former President Donald Trump.  The survey also shows Trump gaining ground with other key voting demographics, including English-speaking Hispanics and veterans. About 65% of the Hispanic voters surveyed said they were more inclined to vote for Trump, w...

Harris says she hopes ‘the former vice president would agree to’ another debate in latest gaffe

By Heather Hunter | Washington Examiner Vice President Kamala Harris called for another presidential debate on Sunday while talking to reporters on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, but mistakenly noted that she hoped for “the former vice president to” agree to the debate. “Well, you’ve probably heard I would like another debate,” Harris said while walking up to reporters. She continued, “So, I’m hoping the former vice president will agree to that, but we have a lot more to discuss.” The White House transcript appears to have corrected her remarks, replacing “the vice president” with “the former president” to refer to her Republican rival, Donald Trump. Biden-Harris’ big-spending infrastructure bill produced little progress on key projects

BySarah Bedford | Washington Examiner Democrats have touted the infrastructure bill Congress passed in 2021 as a signature accomplishment of the Biden-Harris administration, but some of its ambitious projects have fallen far short of expectations nearly three years after President Joe Biden signed it into law. A massive program to expand rural broadband access has failed so far to connect any homes to the internet. A push to electrify school bus fleets has proved costly and inefficient. And a multibillion-dollar effort to build thousands of electric vehicle charging stations across the country has so far yielded just a handful of stations. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act contained $1.2 trillion in spending on what the White House called “a ...

House votes to increase Secret Service protections for Presidential contenders Trump, Harris

By Tracy Ross | Washington Examiner The House voted unanimously to increase Secret Service protections for presidential candidates, giving them the same level of security as sitting presidents while traveling on the campaign trail.  Lawmakers passed a resolution in a 405-0 vote on Friday that would enhance protections for former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris with rare, widespread bipartisan support. The legislation comes in response to the two assassination attempts against Trump during this cycle, which prompted condemnations from both sides of the aisle to crack down on political violence.  “This is not a partisan issue,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said this week. “We have a nominee for president that’s probably the most threatened...

Lara Trump details how ‘military-age men’ use children to cross border

By Jamie Joseph | Washington Examiner Republican National Committee Co-Chairwoman Lara Trump detailed a tactic she said illegal immigrants are using to cross over the border, which involves using “the same child” repeatedly for different crossings. Trump recently toured the southern border to see the border crisis herself, during which she “learned a lot.” She explained that the number of women who are sexually assaulted while crossing the border is close to over 50%, a “much higher” number than what is reported. “I learned a term ‘recycled child,’ that’s a child that the Border Patrol sees four, five, six, maybe even seven times,” Trump said on Fox News’s Hannity. “The same child coming over the border with different military-aged men so that those men ca...

Fed opts for bigger interest rate cut in first downward revision since pandemic

By Zach Halaschak | Washington Examiner The Federal Reserve on Wednesday cut its interest rate target by a half of a percentage point, the first time the central bank has trimmed rates in over four years. After a two-day meeting of its monetary policy committee in Washington, D.C., the Fed announced it would move its rate target to range of 4.75% to 5.00%. Many investors had bet that the Fed would implement a smaller rate cut — an unusual disconnect, as Fed decisions are typically telegraphed long in advance. The rate cut comes after years of near-frantic efforts by the central bank to arrest inflation. Wednesday’s move signals that the Fed sees the inflation threat as over, and now believes the bigger threat is the possibi...

Manchin endorses Hogan in Maryland Senate race, rebuffing former party

By Ross O'Keefe | Washington Examiner Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) is endorsing former Republican Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan in the state’s U.S. Senate race. The move is a sign Manchin is further distancing himself from the Democratic Party after changing his party affiliation to independent. His endorsement, which was made to DC News Now, is widely considered a snub to Democratic nominee Angela Alsobrooks. “Forget about being a Democrat or Republican,” Manchin said. “Larry Hogan is just the right person with the right attitude for the job. He’s not afraid to speak against your party, and he won’t be controlled by any party or any type of ideology.” READ THE FULL STORY AT THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Trump announces new plan to end overtime taxes

By Mabinty Quarshie | Washington Examiner Former President Donald Trump announced a new economic proposal banning any taxes on overtime pay for people who work more than 40 hours per week during a Tuscon, Arizona, rally Thursday evening. “I’m also announcing that as part of our additional tax cuts, we will end all taxes on overtime,” he said in his appearance in the battleground state. “That gives people more of an incentive to work.” “The people who work overtime are among the hardest working citizens in our country, and for too long, no one in Washington has been looking out for them,” Trump continued. “It’s time for the working man and woman to finally catch a break, and that’s what we’re doing because this is a good one. And I think it’s going to ...

Garland speech on DOJ impartiality met with skepticism from critics: ‘A little late’

By Ashley Oliver | Washington Examiner Attorney General Merrick Garland praised his employees on Thursday for their impartiality in the wake of his Justice Department pursuing some of the most politically fraught prosecutions in history. Garland spoke about DOJ “norms” more than a dozen times during his remarks, which he delivered to the department’s workforce during an annual conference of U.S. attorneys in Washington, D.C. “Our norms are a promise that we will not allow this department to be used as a political weapon, and our norms are a promise that we will not allow this nation to become a country where law enforcement is treated as an apparatus of politics,” Garland said. Biden dons ‘Trump 2024’ hat during 9/11 Pennsylvania visit

By Emily Hallas | Washington Examiner Some Pennsylvania firefighters’ days took an unexpected turn as they watched President Joe Biden don a ‘Trump 2024″ hat. After laying a wreath at the 9/11 Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville on Wednesday, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris visited the local fire department. As first responders looked on, Biden grabbed a Trump 2024 hat as he grinned widely.  A White House spokesman explained the president’s surprising act as a “bipartisan” gesture meant to show the country’s “unity” after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City 23 years ago.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER
