Marco Rubio can’t say ‘peace is possible’ between Ukraine and Russia

By Jenny Goldsberry | Washington Examiner Secretary of State Marco Rubio mocked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky‘s demands for security guarantees when peace with Russia is still not guaranteed. Ukraine just passed its third-year anniversary since Russia invaded and war broke out. While Zelensky has maintained control of its capital, Kyiv, Russian President Vladimir Putin claims to have annexed Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya, and Kherson regions in the south and east of Ukraine since September 2022. Rubio explained that speaking to Putin, after not a single European ally or former President Joe Biden was able to, is the way to end the war. “No one here is claiming Vladimir Putin is going to get the Nobel Peace Prize this year or that he should b...

IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn leaked Trump’s tax returns, but we’re now learning how much damage he really did

By Byron York | Washington Examiner For much of President Donald Trump‘s first term in office, the coalition of Democrats, activists, and media figures known collectively as the Resistance believed that obtaining Trump’s tax returns would be the key to bringing down the president. Finally, on Sept. 27, 2020, at the height of Trump’s reelection campaign, the New York Times reported that it had “obtained tax-return data extending over more than two decades for Mr. Trump and the hundreds of companies that make up his business organization, including detailed information from his first two years in office.” The paper published several long articles based on the information. Voila! The Holy Grail of the Resistance! The problem was the stories came and went and did not become the hug...

Thune squeezes Democrats with transgender athlete Senate vote

By David Sivak | Washington Examiner Senate Democrats will take a politically difficult vote on Monday when Republicans bring to the floor a bill preventing transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports. The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which withholds federal funding to schools that permit transgender participation, is not likely to become law due to the Senate filibuster. But the vote, teed up Thursday by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), suggests the continued potency Republicans see in transgender politics after putting it front and center in the 2024 election. It is one of the first bills Senate GOP leadership is prioritizing since retaking the majority in January. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Supreme Court sides with Trump in USAID funding dispute for now

By Kaelan Deese | Washington Examiner The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a lower court order that told the Trump administration to release nearly $2 billion in foreign aid payments by midnight on Wednesday in the dispute over its hold on U.S. Agency for International Development funds. The Justice Department in an emergency filing contended that the administration needs more time to review outstanding payments for fraud and abuse and warned that complying with the rushed timeline could lead to irreversible financial harm. Without issuing comment about the merits of the case, the Supreme Court told parties to file additional responses to their chambers by Friday, according to a brief order by Chief Justice John Roberts. “The order does...

‘We know who leaked’ Aurora ICE raid to Tren de Aragua, Border Czar Tom Homan says

By Anna Giaritelli | Washington Examiner White House border czar Tom Homan said the Trump administration has uncovered who was behind a leak that sabotaged what was supposed to be a significant raid by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement targeting Tren de Aragua gang members in Aurora, Colorado. Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Homan Tuesday evening if the White House had made progress in its search for who tipped off the Venezuelan gang before ICE arrived on the scene on Feb. 5. “Yes, made progress. We know who leaked the Aurora, Colorado, operation that is under investigation as we speak,” Homan said. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Lummis reintroduces bill to block CCP from owning farmland near federal property

By Samantha-Jo Roth | Washington Examiner  Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) is reintroducing legislation that would prevent the Chinese Communist Party from purchasing farmland adjacent to federal property in an effort to protect national security. Lummis is teaming up with Sens. Mike Crapo (R-ID) and John Barrasso (R-WY) on the bill, which would bring heightened scrutiny to land deals implicating Chinese actors after reports of Chinese companies acquiring U.S. farmland near military installations over the last few years. This legislation prohibits any agent or business affiliated with the CCP from purchasing land adjacent to federal land in the United States. It also specifies any business “with respect to which the Government of the People’s Rep...

The nomination of the former Small Business Administration director and a longtime Trump ally advanced along party lines, with all Republicans voting in support and all Democrats voting against it.  McMahon affirmed during her confirmation hearing last week that shutting down the Department of Education would require congressional approval but also made it clear during her testimony that if confirmed by the Senate she intends to carry out the president’s vision. Kathy Hochul lets loose on Trump after congestion pricing dismissal

By Brady Knox | Washington Examiner Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) has adopted a more aggressive persona in response to the Trump administration’s move to end New York City’s congestion pricing, to mixed reception. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy informed Hochul in a Wednesday letter that the federal government was terminating approval of the controversial policy. Hochul responded aggressively, holding a press conference in which she swore, invoked the American Revolution, and vowed to see Trump “in court.” “Donald Trump isn’t a ‘king’ and we won’t let him use New Yorkers as roadkill on his revenge tour,” Hochul captioned a post of her press conference.
