Trump bans federal funding for ‘dangerous’ gain-of-function research

By Brooke Singman  | Fox News President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday banning all federal funding for "dangerous" gain-of-function research in China, Iran and other countries and blocking all federal funding for foreign research that could cause another pandemic.  The president signed the order Monday afternoon to improve the safety and security of biological research in the U.S. and around the world.  The White House said the order "will drastically reduce the potential for lab-related incidents involving gain-of-function research, like that conducted on bat coronaviruses in China by the EcoHealth Alliance and Wuhan Institute of Virology."  Gain-of-function research typically involves modifying a virus to make it more infectious among humans. Iraqi National charged with illegally voting as Dems fight election integrity bill

By Jason Hopkins | Daily Caller Federal prosecutors are accusing an Iraqi national of intentionally voting in the 2020 presidential election, the latest example of a non-citizen unlawfully participating in federal elections. Akeel Abdul Jamiel — a 45-year-old Iraqi man who is not a citizen of the United States — knowingly voted on or around Nov. 3, 2020, in the presidential elections held that year in Saratoga County, New York, according to federal court documents EditSign. The accusation follows a renewed push by Republican lawmakers to pass legislation that would require individuals to provide proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. China threatens countermeasures against countries that ‘appease’ US on trade war

By Stephen Sorace  | Fox Business China has threatened to take countermeasures against any country that strikes trade deals with the U.S. at Beijing’s expense. China's Commerce Ministry issued the warning in a statement on Monday in the latest round of rhetoric surrounding the trade war between the world’s two biggest economies. "China firmly opposes any party reaching a deal at the expense of China’s interests," the ministry said in a statement. "If this happens, China will never accept it and will resolutely take countermeasures in a reciprocal manner. China is determined and capable of safeguarding its own rights and interests." "Appeasement will not bring peace, and compromise will not be respected," the statement continued. READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX BUS...

SCOTUS to hear religious expression case on allowing explicit LGBTQIA+ books in schools

By Hannah Nightingale | The Post Millennial The Supreme Court will hear arguments on Tuesday in a case brought forth by Maryland parents against Montgomery County Board of Education members over the mandated inclusion of storybooks that "celebrate gender transitions, explore Pride parades, and introduce same-sex romance between young children." The case was brought against the board by Muslim parents Tamer Mahboud and Enak Barakat, Catholic and Ukrainian Orthodox parents Jeff and Svitlana Roman, and Catholic Chris and Melissa Persak, all of whom have children in the county, as well as the unincorporated association Kids First, which was formed to "protect parental opt-out rights in the Montgomery County schools." In their petition to the Supreme Court, which w...

House GOP adopts Trump budget blueprint after last-minute scramble

By Mychael Schnell | The Hill House Republicans on Thursday adopted the Senate’s framework that will be used to enact key parts of President Trump’s legislative agenda, getting the blueprint over the finish line after a last-minute scramble to win over conservatives who had spent days railing against the measure. The largely party line 216-214 vote marks a big win for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who has pushed an aggressive timeline to advance Trump’s domestic policy priorities, and President Trump, who endorsed the legislation and lobbied those on the right flank to get on board. Only two Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie (Ky.) and Victoria Spartz (Ind.) — voted against the measure. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE HILL

House Democrat bucks his own party, comes out in staunch support of Trump’s tariff strategy

By Michael Schwarz | Western Journal President Donald Trump and one of his nominal adversaries have suddenly called to mind two of America’s great early statesmen. In my imagination  — excessively fertile, perhaps — Trump plays the role of Founding Father James Madison, while Trump’s nominal adversary, Democratic Rep. Jared Golden of Maine, has channeled the worthy spirit of a fellow New Englander, John Quincy Adams, son of the great Founding Father John Adams. According to Axios, Golden has taken the very Quincy Adams-like approach of bucking his own party and voicing support for Trump’s controversial-yet-brilliant tariff policy. Maine’s lawsuit against The USDA defends boys in girls’ sports, peddles anti-Trump lies about school lunches

By Breccan F. Thies | The Federalist Maine sued the Trump administration on Monday for freezing federal funds to the state after it refused to ban men in women’s sports. Maine also lied in its lawsuit about threats to school lunches for school children. The lawsuit, brought against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), claims that the Trump administration cannot revoke federal funding from Maine — despite the fact that USDA found the state “in direct violation of Title IX” because of “Maine’s continual refusal to provide equal opportunity to women and girls in educational programs.” Following the example set out by a shameless Biden administration, which really did have a USDA that threatened the meals of school children if states did not follow their pro-mutilation-and-cast...

Army diverting millions meant for soldiers’ food, report finds

By Mary Shinn | The Gazette Colorado’s senators and a bipartisan mix of other lawmakers called on the secretary of Defense to provide answers Friday after an investigation that showed the Army is diverting a large portion of money collected from junior service members that should be spent on food. A Military.com investigation showed that across 11 of the Army’s largest bases “more than $151 million of $225 million collected from soldiers was not spent on food.” The money was deducted from junior enlisted service members paychecks to cover the cost of food on base. At Fort Carson, the investigation showed $22 million was collected from soldiers and $5 million was spent on food during the 2024 fiscal year. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE GAZETTE

Trump admin reportedly cutting 80,000 jobs from veterans affairs

By Wallace White | Daily Caller President Donald Trump’s administration is reportedly slashing 80,000 jobs from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in an “aggressive” reorganization, according to a memo obtained by the Associated Press (AP) Wednesday. Christopher Syrek, the VA Chief of Staff, reportedly told top officials in the department that the move is intended to return the VA to 2019 staffing levels at 400,000 employees, according to the memo. The move comes as the Trump administration looks to cut excess spending and waste from the entire federal bureaucracy, with the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by billionaire and Trump ally Elon Musk, taking an ax to several federal initiatives and departments.
