DOGE has arrived at the IRS

By Katie Pavlich | Townhall Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency team have arrived at the Internal Revenue Service and Democrats aren't happy about it.  President Donald Trump previewed the move earlier this week from the Oval office.  "The IRS will be looked at like everybody else. Just about everybody will be looked at," Trump said.  According to the Government Accoutability Office, there's plenty of waste, fraud and abuse to go after at the tax agency, in addition to massive efficiency issues with a need to modernize.  READ THE FULL STORY AT TOWNHALL

Bessent sets the record straight on ‘misinformation’ about DOGE’s work

By Leah Barkoukis | TownHall Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday addressed the "misinformation" being circulated about the work the Department of Government Efficiency is doing. In an interview with Bloomberg, Bessent said he vetted the Treasury employees tasked with accessing federal payment data, noting they have read-only access and are not “tinkering” with payment systems in any way. “It is an operational review. It is not an ideological review,” Bessent told Saleha Mohsin, according to Bloomberg. “The ability to change the system sits over at the Federal Reserve. We don’t even run the system.”  READ THE FULL STORY ON TOWNHALL

Google Maps will soon be changing ‘Gulf of Mexico’ to ‘Gulf of America’

By Leah Barkoukis | Townhall After an executive order signed last week by President Trump, the Interior Department announced the Gulf of Mexico would “officially” be renamed as the Gulf of America. Additionally, North America’s highest mountain will once again be called Mount McKinley. Both name changes “honor the legacy of American greatness,” the statement said.   “The U.S. Board on Geographic Names, under the purview of the Department of the Interior, is working expeditiously to update the official federal nomenclature in the Geographic Names Information System to reflect these changes, effective immediately for federal use,” the statement added.  Once that takes place, the Gulf of America will be reflected on Google Maps, the company said. Barkoukis: NYT blasted for ‘insane’ take on terrorist designation of cartels

By Leah Barkoukis | Commentary, Townhall.com Social media users did a double take this week on a New York Times headline reacting to President Trump’s recent executive order designating certain cartels as global terrorists and foreign terrorist organizations. “The Cartels have engaged in a campaign of violence and terror throughout the Western Hemisphere that has not only destabilized countries with significant importance for our national interests but also flooded the United States with deadly drugs, violent criminals, and vicious gangs,” the EO notes.  “The Cartels functionally control, through a campaign of assassination, terror, rape, and brute force nearly all illegal traffic across the southern border of the United States,” the order continues. “In certain portions of M...

Vespa: With Biden out and Trump in, America is back

By Matt Vespa | Commentary, TownHall.com You've made it. You’ve survived Joe Biden's failed presidency. This joke of an administration has done nothing but set the world ablaze and make everyone poorer. But now, the work to rebuild our country begins on January 20 when Donald J. Trump is inaugurated once again as the 47th president of the United States. Unlike the past four years of misery, Townhall will cover our great revival under President Trump, but it won't be easy. Democrats in Congress and the mainstream media are going to do everything they can to disrupt and block Trump's America First and Make America Great Again agendas. They prefer the status quo and ignore the will of the American people, who, on November 5, 2024, gave Trump a mandate to restore American greatness an...

One agency is melting down over Trump’s win

By Matt Vespa | Townhall The Federal Bureau of Investigation is reportedly a place of mourning. Donald Trump won the 2024 election, capping off the greatest political comeback in American history. It’s over. Done. Trumpism is here to stay. The man has defeated the liberal media, the intelligence community, and the Justice Department, and they’re shell-shocked and stunned over this decisive win. Trump won 312 electoral votes and the popular vote. For the top brass at the J. Edgar Hoover Building, it’s likely the end of their tenure at the agency (via Washington Times):  " The brass on the seventh floor at FBI headquarters in Washington are walking around in a daze and wary of a housecleaning since President-elect Donald Trump won his reelection on Tuesday, according to inside sourc...

Overbeck: Kamala makes women’s lives more dangerous

By Joy Overbeck | Commentary, Townhall Champion of women’s rights uber feminist Kamala Harris has put women’s very lives in danger. As Czarina of the Open Border, she is directly to blame for the body count of American women mounting up across our nation since she and Biden canceled Trump’s previous illegal immigration safeguards and opened the floodgates to over 13,000 illegal migrant convicted murderers and 15,811 illegal migrant convicted rapists now roaming our streets.  Her empathy for illegal criminals instead of Americans has cost many American women and young girls their lives. We don’t know how many because the FBI doesn’t tell us. We do know the names of some of the beautiful, dynamic young women (allegedly) raped and killed by illegals. We know about Laken R...

Schlichter: It’s Election Day. Let’s do this thing

By Kurt Schlichter, Commentary | Townhall This is it. It’s time. We’ve been waiting four years for this chance to take back our country, and tomorrow it happens. This is history in the making, and it is an election people will be reading about in books for the next few centuries. Hopefully, they won’t be reading it in a chapter entitled “The End of America.” Over the last couple of weeks, I wrote columns on the Golden Age that would follow the election of Trump and the unspeakable nightmare that would follow the election of Kamala. That’s the reality, that’s the choice: triumph or tragedy. We are at a fork in the road. Civilizations have come to these forks as long as there have been civilizations, and eventually, every civilization takes the wrong one. We can only hope that America’s t...

The Pentagon fails to send absentee ballots to active military service members

By Sarah Arnold | Townhall Republican lawmakers demand answers from the Pentagon after military service members complained that they have not received enough absentee ballots to vote before Election Day. GOP Reps. Brian Mast (R-FL), Bill Huizenga (R-MI), and Mike Waltz (R-FL) sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin citing their “grave concern over deficiencies in the Defense Department’s protocols” for the U.S. military because they said the absentee ballot stockpile has been “depleted and had not been replenished.” “Our nation’s brave men and women in uniform brought to our attention that there has been inadequate education at the administrative level on how to register to vote, request an absentee ballot, and fill in a federal write-in absentee ballot if their state-...

House Republicans Demand Answers on IRS Whistleblower Retaliation

By Rebecca Downs | Townhall The saga of IRS whistleblowers, Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley and Special Agent Joseph Ziegler, remains in the news after all this time. On Friday, the Republican chairman of three House Committees--Rep. James Comer (R-KY) of Oversight and Accountability, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) Judiciary, and Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) of Ways and Means--sent a letter to Karen Gorman, the Acting Principal Deputy Special Counsel of the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, regarding alleged retaliation against IRS whistleblowers. Their letters comes in response to what the chairmen are referring to as a "stunning development," as Shapley's attorneys have come out with quite the update. As Jennifer Van Laar covered at our sister site of RedState, Shapley dared to speak with ...
