Bondi says she was misled on Epstein documents

By Elizabeth Crisp | The Hill Attorney General Pam Bondi was duped into thinking she had all the files related to investigations into disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, she told Fox News host Mark Levin over the weekend while defending Thursday’s widely mocked document dump. “I kept saying, there has to be more. There has to be more,” Bondi said Saturday. “I was assured that’s it.” Epstein, who hobnobbed with celebrities, royalty and other powerful people, died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. OPM instructs agencies to turn over plans for mass government layoffs

By  Rebecca Beitsch | The Hill A Wednesday memo from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directs agencies across government to turn over plans for widespread layoffs of federal employees by March 13. The memo, which provides more specific guidance after a Feb. 11 executive order from President Trump mandating layoffs, requires agencies to break down their plans for a reduction in force and broader restructuring of their agencies. It also indicates the White House is eager to speed the shedding of federal workers, noting OPM can cut in half the 60-day notification period for employees being laid off, meaning swift-moving agencies could begin notifying affected employees as soon as April. Judge rules Trump administration can move ahead on mass government layoffs

By Zach Schonfeld  | The Hill A federal judge Thursday refused a group of government employee unions’ request to block the Trump administration from moving ahead with plans to dramatically reduce the federal workforce. U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled that federal law mandates the unions bring their challenge before the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA), which adjudicates labor relations within the federal bureaucracy, rather than a federal district court. The decision notches another victory for Trump’s Justice Department, which is defending against dozens of lawsuits challenging a broad range of the president’s executive actions, including the administration’s efforts to slash spending and reshape government agencies. Former Leader McConnell won’t seek eighth term in the U.S. Senate

By Al Weaver | The Hill Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday announced that he is not seeking reelection in 2026, bringing an end to the longest-serving Senate leader’s political career. McConnell, one of the leading and most impactful GOP figures of the past half-century, revealed his decision in a floor speech in the chamber where he has served since 1985. “Seven times, my fellow Kentuckians have sent me to the Senate,” McConnell said. Vance scolds Europe over censorship, criticizes ‘mass migration’

By Brett Samuels  | The Hill Vice President Vance on Friday used his first major speech on the international stage to accuse European leaders of stifling opposing viewpoints and of retreating from “fundamental values.” Vance delivered remarks at the Munich Security Conference, where he argued the biggest threats facing Europe were not China or Russia, but the issue of mass migration and laws that restrict free speech. “While the Trump administration is very concerned with European security and believes we can come to a reasonable settlement between Russia and Ukraine … the threat that I worry the most about vis-à-vis Europe is not Russia, it’s not China, it’s not any other external actor,” Vance said. U.S. Senate confirms Brooke Rollins to lead USDA

By Al Weaver  | The Hill Democrats agreed to condense floor time for the nomination after she was voted unanimously out of the Senate Committee on Agriculture.  Rollins is expected to work with lawmakers on the farm bill, which has stalled out in recent months, and on priorities related to doling out billions of dollars in assistance for farmers. She also received wide backing from major farm organizations.  Although she does not have a background in agriculture, Rollins headed the Domestic Policy Council under Trump’s first term and was part of the Office of American Innovation, which was shuttered by President Biden’s White House. She also led the America First Policy Institute after Trump’s 2020 loss.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE HILL

Judge won’t halt Trump, Musk federal worker buyout program

By Rebecca Beitsch | The Hill A federal judge declined to further pause a federal government buyout program, enabling the government to forge ahead with its “Fork in the Road” program. U.S. District Court Judge George O’Toole had extended the time frame for federal employees to decide whether to take the unusual offer, which gives employees eight months of pay and benefits if they wish to depart government. In a Wednesday ruling, O’Toole found that the unions who had sued over the directive did not have standing to do so. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE HILL

‘We’re about to get annihilated’: Musk, DOGE descend on consumer bureau

By  Julia Shapero  | The Hill The Trump administration is moving rapidly to gut the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), halting the agency’s work, cutting off its funding and shutting down its headquarters.  The push is not unlike the effort launched in the early years of President Trump’s first term to defang the agency, which has faced staunch opposition from Republicans throughout its brief existence.  However, as Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) sweeps into one agency after another with the directive to slash wide swaths of government funding, the new assault on the CFPB has sparked concerns from consumer advocacy groups and Democratic lawmakers about just how far the administration will go this time.  READ THE FULL STORY ON THE...

Trump announces task force to ‘eradicate anti-Christian bias’

By  Brett Samuels  | The Hill President Trump announced plans Thursday to establish a task force and a presidential commission to protect Christians from religious discrimination. Trump addressed the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, where he laid out multiple steps he planned to take to address what he described as attacks on religious liberty and on Christians in particular. “While I’m in the White House, we will protect Christians in our schools, in our military, in our government, in our workplaces, hospitals and in our public squares,” he said. “And we will bring our country back together as one nation under God.” READ THE FULL STORY AT THE HILL

The vote was 54-46. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) joined all Republicans in voting in support of Bondi.
