Study: ‘Vast DEI bureaucracy’ negatively impacting U.S. armed forces

By Cameron Arcand | The Daily Signal Diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the U.S. military are ineffective, a new Arizona State University study suggests. The study done by the university’s Center for American Institutions argued that there is an emphasis on training new soldiers about social issues like “unconscious bias” and “intersectionality” in a way the center says runs contrary to typical American ideals. The study examined DEI plans in different sectors of the military, including DEI office staffing and education at academies like West Point. “The massive DEI bureaucracy, its training and its pseudo-scientific assessments are at best distractions that absorb valuable time and resources,” the executive summary states. “At worst they communic...

Estes: When Washington spends, you’re on the hook. You deserve to know for how much.

By Rep. Ron Estes | The Daily Signal Maybe you’ve heard that our national debt has topped $34.7 trillion. But what does that really mean for you and your family? The number is somewhat incomprehensible. To spell it out, that’s thirty-four trillion, seven hundred and twenty-five billion, eight hundred and fifty million, three hundred and twenty-three thousand, six hundred and eight dollars. That number is 14 digits long, and it grows by about $100,000 every second. If our national debt were printed in one-dollar bills, you could make 10 stacks of bills from the earth to the moon. If our national debt were in seconds, it would equate to 1,095,641 years. According to the National Geophysical Data Center, there are just over 321 million cubic miles of water in all of the Earth’s oc...

Study: Huge percentage of EV owners want their gas cars back

By Nick Pope | The Daily Signal Nearly half of American electric vehicle owners want to buy an internal combustion engine model the next time they buy a car, according to a new study from McKinsey and Co., a leading consulting firm. Approximately 46% of Americans who own an EV want to go back to a standard vehicle for their next purchase, citing issues like inadequate charging infrastructure and affordability, according to McKinsey’s study, which was obtained and reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The study’s findings further suggest that the Biden administration’s push for electric vehicles is struggling to land with American consumers, after 46% of respondents indicated they are unlikely or very unlikely to purchase an EV in a June poll conducted by The Asso...

Supreme Court upholds ban on gun ownership by those under domestic violence court orders

By Elizabeth Troutman | The Daily Signal The Supreme Court upheld the federal law banning gun ownership by those under domestic violence restraining orders on Friday morning. In its U.S. v. Rahimi ruling, the court rejected Zackey Rahimi’s claim that the statue that prohibits the possession of firearms by persons subject to domestic violence restraining orders violates the Second Amendment. The court issued an 8-1 ruling, with Justice Clarence Thomas as the only dissenting vote. “Since the Founding, the Nation’s firearm laws have included regulations to stop individuals who threaten physical harm to others from misusing firearms,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority. “As applied to the facts here, Section 922(g)(8) fits within this tradition.” READ THE F...

Poll: Majority of Hispanics favor deporting ‘all’ illegals

By Jason Hopkins  | The Daily Signal An outright majority of Hispanic Americans are in favor of a mass deportation plan for illegal immigrants, a new survey found. Fifty-three percent of Hispanic adults approve of “a new national program to deport all undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S. illegally,” according to a CBS/YouGov poll conducted from June 5-7. Only 47% of Hispanic respondents said they opposed such a measure, which is outside the poll’s margin of error. The political and demographic breakdown of the survey further indicated widespread support for the hypothetical mass deportation plan. In total, 62% of respondents favored deporting “all” illegal immigrants from the U.S., including a majority of men, women, independents, conservatives, moderates, ...

Adams, Spakovsky: Despite liberals’ hysterical denials, aliens are registering and voting

By Hans von Spakovsky and J. Christian Adams  | The Daily Signal The truth is out there. Aliens are registering and voting in American elections. For anyone who cares to see it, the truth is available in public records in election offices across the nation. But unfortunately, those who expose the truth about voting by aliens—illegal immigrants or not—are subjected to ridicule and an onslaught from the Left to preserve the broken status quo. Some would prefer that anyone who documents aliens participating in American elections—especially with the current border crisis—simply disappear. We both testified recently before the House Administration Committee on this serious and real problem. The reactions of some Democrats on the committee were outl...

Swearer: These accounts of defensive gun use speak volumes

By Amy Swearer | The Daily Signal It seems that many gun control activists want to take your guns so badly that they’re willing to take your voice, too. And increasingly, the war for the Second Amendment involves battles waged on a First Amendment front. Just ask the National Rifle Association, which last week needed the Supreme Court to vindicate its right to free speech against New York’s attempts to suppress the gun rights organization’s pro-Second Amendment views. New York’s unconstitutional assault on a Second Amendment advocacy group was, unfortunately, far from the first time that gun control activists have attacked the lawful gun industry and lawful gun owners by threatening their right to speak freely. Fuller: The many reasons you shouldn’t be afraid to question election results

By Levi Fuller  | The Daily Signal It’s been said that the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn’t exist. Most of us remember the national election of 2020: The COVID-19 pandemic, sudden changes to election procedures, mysterious mail-in ballots, allegedly hacked voting systems, and legions of lawyers filing scores of lawsuits. I think we all remember the aftermath in 2021, as well. Thousands of angry conservative voters traveled to Washington, D.C., and entered the Capitol to protest the certification of the election after a surprise upset led to Joe Biden becoming the president. Then came the speculation: Did the Chinese hack voting machines to flip the vote in favor of Biden? Were countless mail-in ballots sh...

Dozens of energy groups ask Congress to overturn Biden’s green power plant rules

By Nick Pope  | The Daily Signal Dozens of energy policy and advocacy groups are pushing Congress to repeal one of President Joe Biden’s signature climate policies. A coalition of more than 40 organizations signed on to a letter being circulated Thursday to lawmakers, taking aim at the Environmental Protection Agency’s recently finalized emissions-reduction regulations for coal-fired and new natural gas power plants. The letter urges lawmakers to back expected resolutions from Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Rep. Troy Balderson, R-Ohio, that would overturn the rules using the Congressional Review Act, a tool allowing lawmakers to overturn certain federal regulatory actions. The EPA’s rules, finalized in April, require many existing coal plants a...

Hankinson: Why Biden’s executive order won’t solve the illegal immigration crisis

By Simon Hankinson | The Daily Signal President Joe Biden announced his highly anticipated executive order to supposedly secure the border on Tuesday. With it, the president attempted to do the impossible: avoid impeding the mass illegal migration for which his policies are directly responsible while convincing Americans he is “doing something”—at last—to secure the border. This “unserious” proclamation-plus-rule combo platter (a Presidential Proclamation on Securing the Border and the Joint DHS-DOJ Interim Final Rule to Restrict Asylum During High Encounters at the Southern Border) will do the first but not the second. It’s hard to imagine there is an American out there who can be persuaded that Biden has gotten religion on enforcing U.S. immigration law,...
