Civic and businesses leaders announced Tuesday that new organizers have come forward to ensure a parade will take place next month after last week’s news of the cancellation of the original parade triggered an outpouring of support for the event. Budget crunch could lead to $3 per person uptick in cost to drive up Pikes Peak

By Seth Boster | Pikes Peak Courier The price to drive up Pikes Peak could rise next summer under a proposal that comes at a time of other changes, increased costs and future concerns for the enterprise managing the famed highway. Pikes Peak-America’s Mountain — the enterprise established out of the city of Colorado Springs’ operations dating to 1948 — has proposed an extra $3 for people passing the Pikes Peak Highway gate. That would increase adult and children tickets to $18 and $8, respectively. Under the proposal, the charge for a carload of people would be $65, up $15. Colorado Springs-based resident group Integrity Matters filed two complaints in under two weeks with Secretary of State Jena Griswold’s office, alleging Leinweber has used his current position as an at-large Colorado Springs councilman to campaign for his election as the county’s District 3 commissioner. Investigation continues into partial Main Street building collapse in Cañon City

By CARIE CANTERBURY | Canon City Daily Record City officials continue investigating the cause of a partial building collapse Tuesday afternoon at 612 Main St. in Cañon City. Emergency and utility crews responded to the structure at about 5:20 p.m. and discovered that portions of a first- and second-floor east exterior wall had broken away from the building and collapsed. There were two ground-floor businesses and one occupied residential space upstairs. “Thankfully, there were no injuries; one family was displaced and is staying with family,” states a press release from the City of Cañon City on Wednesday. According to officials, the declaration was issued because “a public emergency exists in Teller County based on the severe winter storm and extremely high snow accumulation, which started on March 13, 2024, and continues, which poses an imminent threat of widespread and severe damage, injury or loss of life and property.” They added that the storm has created a strain on first responders and public services, as well as blocking travel on and preventing access to roadways. By Kevin Simpson | Colorado Sun Nearly two years after legislation designated the site of Colorado’s Granada War Relocation Center — also known as Camp Amache — part of the National Park System, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland on Thursday formally closed the deal that creates Amache National Historic Site, ensuring federal protection for the grounds where more than 10,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. Details surrounding Granada’s official acquisition and donation of the land were recently finalized to clear the way for the National Park Service to assume management of the site, which sits on nearly one square mile just outside of the southeastern Colorado town.
