U.S. Rep-elect Evans, SBOE Member-elect Navarro to be featured in town hall

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice A town hall meeting featuring Congressman-elect Gabe Evans and State Board of Education Member-elect Yazmin Navarro, both of the 8th Congressional District, will take place on Friday, Dec. 6, from 1-3 p.m. The town hall is being hosted and offered by Wayne Walvoord, the regional captain in Northern and Eastern Colorado for the Convention of States. Evans unseated Democrat U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo in a race decided by 2,449 votes among 333,609 total votes. He gathered 48.96% of the vote, edging out Caraveo by 0.74%. The race did not qualify for a mandatory recount, as it was 0.24% beyond the 0.50% margin to trigger a recount. Navarro was part of a right turn for the State Board of Education, as Republicans won three of the four races on the...

In Western Slope café, Coloradans react to pardon of Hunter Biden by his father, President Biden

By Jen Schumann | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The announcement of Hunter Biden’s pardon from his father, President Joe Biden, raised eyebrows nationwide. And, in Mesa County, it has launched endless questions about the integrity of the justice system. In a Grand Junction café, the coffee comes with political conversations that reflect the deep skepticism of federal leadership. Residents here are watching closely and their reactions highlight a range of concerns, from distrust in government promises to broader questions about fairness in the justice system. For Gerald Gustin, a U.S. Navy veteran, the pardon marked a clear departure from assurances made by the White House: “Karine Jean-Pierre said multiple times it wouldn’t happen. And yet, here we are,” he said, referencing...

Rep. Boebert hawks for fiscal efficiency as she says Washington bureaucrats ‘spend, spend, spend’

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Despite ever-rising inflationary pricing on everything from milk to meat, Americans are tightening their belts and living within a family budget. Washington should do the same, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert said during a Wednesday evening appearance on "Stinchfield Tonight". President Joe Biden's self-named "Bidenomic" economy pushed many Americans to the brink, she says, with "record inflation" that has "decimated our bank and retirement accounts" and resulted in increases to such commodities as gasoline, utilities and groceries, "making it so hard for Americans to live," Boebert complained. https://twitter.com/RepBoebert/status/1864490165391028504 The President had recently asked Congress for another $24 billion in aid for Ukraine, which wo...

Sloan: Who is really a threat to the U.S. Constitution?

By Kelly Sloan | Contributing Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice There remains a great deal of amusement to be had at the expense of our friends on the left who continue, at D-Day-plus-one month, with eruptions of hysteria at the realization that more Americans preferred the specter of life under Donald Trump to that of one under Kamala Harris. Disappointment is understandable; pointed criticism is good, even necessary to democratic hygiene in a free society, but here and there we see examples of feverishness bumping against the boundaries of madness, even among experienced journalists who ought to know better -- or at least ought to possess the awareness to self-regulate. Ruth Marcus’ job description tells you all you need to know about her ideological persuasions. She is a columni...

Devotional: Mercy in the power of a pardon must be rooted in truth

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The words "pardon" and "mercy" beautifully complement each other, leading to profound consequences and uplifting experiences. Recent discussions on political pardons reveal the true essence of mercy and underscore the importance of seeking forgiveness in line with God's principles, rather than the selfish and dishonest routes often seen in human behavior. Mercy is a vital manifestation of God’s love, and it has the power to transform lives. The key lies in having faith in God’s mercy to comprehend real mercy and recognize when pardon is justifiable.  President Joe Biden and I share a common experience — not in political views, but in the challenge of having sons who can be foolish and come from privileged backgrounds. My son,...

Garbo: The aftermath of COVID-19, a profound failure of leadership, media and accountability

By C. J. Garbo | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The House Oversight & Accountability Committee’s After-Action Review of the COVID-19 pandemic, released on Dec. 2, presents a scathing indictment of the government’s, media’s and political organizations’ handling of the crisis. It exposes systemic failures, deceptions and outright betrayals that exacerbated the suffering of millions. This report not only lays bare the consequences of incompetence and political agendas but also raises the unsettling question: Did fear and ignorance drive this failure, or was it a calculated assault on the American people? The revelation that COVID-19 most likely originated from a lab in Wuhan, China, should shake the very foundations of public trust in our institutions. For years, the medi...

‘There’s nothing affirming or inclusive about lying to children’: Gays Against Groomers head advocates at U.S. Supreme Court

By Jen Schumann | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice “I am a real life gay man,” said Dr. Rich Guggenheim, a Coloradan and director of legislation for Gays Against Groomers as he spoke Wednesday on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court advocating for children’s rights.  Guggenheim has lobbied and testified against bills he believes harm children. Guggenheim's advocacy includes leading ballot initiatives to protect girls' sports and parental rights. He also sued Colorado legislators in federal court for violating 1st Amendment rights. On the Supreme Court steps, Guggenheim condemned the irreversible medical treatments of children. "We as an organization oppose the indoctrination, sexualization and the mutilation of children under the guise of LGBTQ+ rights," he stated. ...

Drive less, bike more? Polis’ transportation vision faces public backlash in one city

By Jen Schumann | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice Gov. Jared Polis' Administration plans to build 3,540 miles of new bicycle lanes, an 81% increase from the current reality. This goal is one of many outlined in his Administration’s “Colorado Transportation Vision 2035.” The plan is aimed to play a role in helping meet the state’s climate goals. An underlying agenda, or one sub-goal, is explicitly stated in the plan: “Doubling Colorado’s non-auto mode share from today’s level of 9.6% to 19.2% by 2035.” But what does this administrative jargon mean exactly? No speculation is needed. The answer is provided in the plan. “This means that the percentage of trips where people choose to take transit, walk, bike or roll (instead of driving alone) would slightly more than doubl...

Lee and Lundberg: A call to get involved with Protect Kids Colorado

By Erin Lee and Kevin Lundberg | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Protect Kids Colorado (PKC) first launched earlier this year with two citizen initiatives to address the harm being caused by gender ideology in our public schools. Along with several other strong community leaders, we worked overtime to stand up a permanent organization that will protect kids in Colorado from the dangers of transgender ideology through education, citizen initiatives and aggressive oversight of state and local legislation. Our two initiatives that would have simply kept biological males out of girls sports and informed parents when their child has been transitioned in public schools did not make the ballot – not this year anyway. However, hundreds of Coloradans have stepped up to work wit...
