Mountain lion shot and killed at elementary school in Colorado

By Spencer McKee | Out There Colorado A scary situation unfolded at a Colorado school on the morning of November 8 that involved a police officer shooting and killing a mountain lion. According to a report on the situation, officers initially responded to a report of a mountain lion on the grounds of Greeley's Madison K8 school. Given that the predator was in close proximity of students and families, a 'Secure Perimeter' status was issued, preventing anyone from entering or leaving the building. While the Greeley Police Department was working closely with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to manage the incident, staff of the state agency were said to have an "extended arrival time." Denver’s minimum wage among highest in U.S., but rent far from ‘affordable’, report finds

By Spencer McKee | Out There Colorado It's no secret that housing prices around the country have gotten quite lofty in recent years – all while the federal minimum wage has stayed at the $7.25 that was established in 2009. That said, 34 states have increased their own minimum wages above the federal level and some cities have established local minimum wage requirements that are even higher than those required by their state. Denver, for example, has a minimum wage of $18.29 an hour above Colorado's required $14.42. A recent report from Clever took a dive into the topic of minimum wage and affordability, using data to determine where around the country minimum wage workers spend the largest and smallest share of their income on rent. Their report compares local minimum wage ...

Collared gray wolf activity observed south of I-70 for the first time

By Piper Russell | Out There Colorado Biologists with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) have noted GPS locations from a collared gray wolf south of Interstate 70. This update comes after the Collared Gray Wolf Activity Map was updated on Wed., Oct. 23. CPW does not usually provide location information on the wolves outside of updating the map on the fourth Wednesday of each month. However, CPW is providing this update because it is the first time GPS data points have been observed south of I-70. READ THE FULL STORY AT OUT THERE COLORADO

Here’s what Colorado’s wolves have been up to in the last month

By Spencer McKee | Out There Colorado Colorado Parks and Wildlife has released their latest update related to the movement of the state's collared wolves, also touching on several other wolf-related developments. The most recent update looks at what watershed areas wolves have been detected in from September 24 to October 22 (seen in image above), though it's important to note that if a wolf is detected in a given watershed area, it doesn't mean that they've been seen in that entire area. This is put on display in how some watersheds that wolves have been detected in cross I-70 to the south – meanwhile, no tracked wolves have actually traveled south of this major thoroughfare. Drone footage captures 300-foot-long dinosaur track site in Ouray County

By Spencer McKee | Out There Colorado In case you haven't heard, public access was recently opened for the 'world's largest continuous dinosaur track site,' also known as the West Gold Hill Dinosaur Tracksite in Colorado's Ouray County. The tracks were left by a long-neck sauropod dinosaur, estimated to be more than 150 million years old. The site features 134 consecutive prints, measuring at about 106 yards long, also noteworthy as rare evidence of a saurapod's sharp-turning behavior. News broke about the track site opening to the public last April, with drone video recently published by ABC capturing how cool the spectacle really is. Zelensky attacks Trump and Vance to U.S. media, tours ammo plant in PA at taxpayers’ expense

By Christina Coulter  | Breitbart Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is bashing former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), attacking them in American media outlets and touring an ammunition factory in Pennsylvania Sunday — reportedly arriving there at the taxpayers’ expense on an Air Force jet. The New Yorker has an exhaustive piece on Zelensky penned by Joshua Yaffa, stating that the Ukrainian leader “speaks with the urgency of a leader who knows that he may be facing his last best chance for substantial foreign assistance” as President Biden’s presidential term is coming to an end. The Q&A in the piece is revealing, as Zelensky openly attacks Trump, asserting that he “doesn’t really know how to stop the war even if he might think he knows how....

How NYC ‘sanctuary’ status allows bloodthirsty migrant gang Tren de Aragua to thrive in Big Apple’s shelters

By Joe Marino, Jennie Taer, Craig McCarthy and Jorge Fitz-Gibbon | New York Post The Big Apple’s migrant-friendly “sanctuary city” status has allowed the vicious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to flourish in local migrant shelters, hamstringing cops and keeping immigration agents in the dark, law enforcement sources tell The Post. The gang has infiltrated the shelter system to build a criminal enterprise that peddles drugs, guns and women in the five boroughs — but the restrictive policy largely bars the NYPD from policing the facilities and prohibits the city from tipping off federal immigration agents about dangerous illegal immigrants, the sources said. “It was an unintended consequence of this administration’s policies,” a source with US Immigration and Customs Enfor...

Flying out of DIA? In many cases, your walk to gate could be well over a mile

By Spencer McKee | Out There Colorado If you think you're walking a bit far to reach your gate at Denver International Airport, you might not be wrong – but then again, it is one of the busiest airports in the country. A recent piece from Reader's Digest took at look at how long some people have to walk to reach their gate at various airports around the country, and while DIA didn't snag the first place spot for 'longest walk,' it did end up ranking 4th. The longest 'airport walk' nationwide is found at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, coming in at a distance of 2.16 miles. Denver International Airport's longest walk, however, isn't much shorter, at 1.45 miles. READ THE FULL STORY AT OUT THERE COLORADO

Fall colors will arrive soon in Colorado. Plan your trip to mountains in early September.

By Spencer McKee | Out There Colorado The arrival of fall colors is just weeks away in Colorado, sure to put on a show worth planning a trip into the mountains for. As far as timing goes, expect the first fall colors to show up around September 10 this year, according to Explore Fall. Peak fall colors, however, will come much later – and you'll want to wait to plan your trip for then. Two big questions related to when fall colors will appear and how long they'll stick around tend to be temperature and precipitation. The arrival of lower nighttime temps tends to be what triggers the appearance of brilliant yellows, oranges, and reds among Colorado's foliage, with drier conditions – which have been present in Colorado this year – often meaning an earlier transition in the trees...
