Lennington and Gruel: Title IX Changes Risk Undermining Female Athletics in the Name of Inclusivity

By Dan Lennington and Lauren Greuel | National Review With the closing ceremony now in the rearview, we can declare an official winner of the Olympics: Title IX. Now over 50 years old, Title IX is a federal law that guarantees equal treatment of men and women in American educational institutions, including in college sports. Before Title IX, schools heavily prioritized men’s athletic programs, with the average university devoting only 2 percent of athletic budgets to women’s sports. Title IX put an end to that disparity. The law’s mandates are rigorous. It requires distribution of scholarship dollars proportionally based on participation. Title IX also ensures that, as women step onto the field, court, or track, the financial support follows. By tying scholarsh...

National Review: The attempted assassination of Donald J. Trump

By THE EDITORS | Commentary, National Review The nation escaped an unspeakable tragedy that would have been profoundly destabilizing for the country by perhaps a few centimeters. As it is, what happened in Butler, Pa., is godawful enough. A gunman tried to assassinate former president Donald Trump and grazed his ear with a bullet, while killing one rally-goer and seriously injuring others. This was a heinous act of violence and an attack on American democracy. Trump’s reaction was truly extraordinary and will long be remembered. After Secret Service officers threw themselves on the former president and then picked him up to begin to take him to safety, he insisted on pausing on the stage, with blood streaming down his face, and pumping his fist to the crowd and repe...

RFK Jr. misses CNN debate deadline, leaving Biden and Trump in head-to-head contest

By DAVID ZIMMERMANN | National Review Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. failed to qualify for next week’s CNN debate by the network’s Thursday deadline, missing the opportunity to stand alongside former president Donald Trump and President Joe Biden on stage. Kennedy did not meet CNN’s polling and ballot-access requirements for the June 27 debate. The presidential longshot needed to earn at least 15 percent support in four nationwide polls. By Thursday, he sat just above the 15 percent mark on three approved national polls. CNN also required all participating debaters to get on a sufficient number of state ballots in order to reach 270 electoral votes needed to win the election. Currently, Kennedy only has 89 electoral votes for being present on the ballot i...

1st Amendment case of Jack Phillips and Masterpiece Cakeshop in front of Colorado Supreme Court

By NATAN EHRENREICH | National Review America’s favorite baker, Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop, is back in front of the Colorado Supreme Court today for yet another round of state-sponsored persecution. The question before the court: Does the First Amendment apply in Colorado, or can the state continue to harass, target, and bully speakers who don’t ascend to the state’s view of cultural issues, in direct contradiction of recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings? That is not hyperbole. The Supreme Court already ruled once that Colorado unconstitutionally targeted Phillips for his religious beliefs. It also ruled a year ago that the application of Colorado law to compel speech violates the 1st Amendment. One might believe that Colorado didn’t get the message, but that’s false. It did ...
