Are attack ads for contentious primaries effective?

By Sara Bichler | Fox 31 News More advertisements are coming out ahead of Tuesday’s primary election, and while some are meant to help a candidate, others are looking to make political opponents appear worse. In the race for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional Seat on the Western Slope, six Republican candidates are vying for a spot on November’s ballot to take over the seat U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert is leaving behind. Now, a national GOP Super PAC is trying to turn voters against one of the candidates. The Congressional Leadership Fund is hoping to convince voters that Ron Hans will lose in November if he wins the primary. This is despite Hanks being endorsed by the Colorado Republican Party. Along with the holiday comes a special flag. According to CNN, the banner has several symbols that represent the end of slavery in the U.S. READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX 31 NEWS

Lone Tree residents scrap Douglas County probation office location

By Rachel Saurer | Fox 31 Denver/KDVR People in Lone Tree came together on Thursday night to block a proposal to move the location of the new Douglas County Probation Office. It all started in 2018 when county commissioners discussed leaving the 18th Judicial District. “The 18th Judicial District was Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln,” said Douglas County Commissioner Lora Thomas. “We got a law passed in 2020 that will create this brand new district in 2025.” This new district would be the 23rd Judicial District, which would cater more specifically to the needs of people from Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties. Officials concerned with public safety, human waste at Auraria protest camp

By Rogelio Mares | KDVR DENVER (KDVR) — Auraria Campus officials raised concerns Thursday about safety and sanitary conditions at the ongoing encampment protests there. There was no word Thursday on plans to clear the encampment, but options appear to be running thin. Campus officials say they are concerned about nonstudents and possible criminal activity, while students said they are not the ones causing the issues. Auraria Campus officials report hazards to public safety and cleanliness at the encampment, which has been a weeks-long protest against the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. “A lot of it has been our patrols and our folks who have been monitoring the quad,” said Devra Ashby, with Auraria Higher Education Center. Denver announces plan to invest over $500M to revitalize downtown

By Brooke Williams | KDVR DENVER (KDVR) — After teasing the announcement in an “ask me anything” session on Reddit, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said Thursday that the city plans to invest more than $500 million over the next decade to “restore downtown vibrancy and stimulate economic growth.” According to a release from the city, downtown Denver has been slower than other areas when it comes to recovering from the pandemic. The city said downtown has seen lower foot traffic, businesses closing and a lack of new housing development because hybrid and remote working options are becoming more popular. From March to May 2023, Denver’s downtown foot traffic was at an average of 56% of what it was in 2019, according to researchers at the University of Toronto School of Citie...
