What does ‘Do Better Denver’ say about all of us, and the media?

By Cory Gaines | Guest Columnist I was recently introduced to a Twitter account called “Do Better Denver,” after reading about it in a Westword article. If you are like me and don't live in Denver (or on Twitter), you may not be aware of who they are, but it's not hard to describe. It's a social media account that posts unflinching pictures of homeless people around Denver along with sharing some items that would fall more comfortably into the category of news, e.g. sharing the amount Denver has spent on public safety this year. I think that reasonable arguments could be made either way about the value of pictures of homeless people and encampments in bringing to light the issue and/or in trying to fix it. I will leave it to you to come to your own conclusions there. I'm not going...

Protect Kids Colorado launches to protect kids, strengthen families through citizens ballot initiatives

By Erin Lee | Guest Columnist Colorado is one of 24 states to have a Citizens Ballot Initiative process. Coloradans, that means “We the People” have a process by which to make law. Article V, Section II, Item 2.0, of the Colorado Constitution clearly lays out the people’s process by stating: “The first power hereby reserved by the people is the initiative…” The FIRST power.  The United States and Colorado Constitutions were founded on the principles of individual rights and “We The People” maintaining those fundamental and inalienable rights. It’s the reason the American experiment has been and can continue to be the most successful Constitutional Republic in the world.   As Coloradans are becoming increasingly aware, our state leadership is off the rails. The laws co...

Get involved with Colorado’s postpartum pilot program

By Rebekah Meurer | Rocky Mountain Voice Do you value God, family and freedom? Do you stand for those values? Will you stand for God, country and freedom? These are important questions in our present times. If you were to be asked what is the most under attack in the United States, what would your answer be? Would you respond it is the family? If the family is allowed to be brought down, government tyranny will destroy everything else with ease. The United States has a major health crisis with new mothers in the immediate postpartum period. In 2010, rates of postpartum depression were at 9.4%. Fast forward to the time of the pandemic, postpartum depression rates more than doubled. With the birth rates in the United States averaging about 4 million live births each year, that means...

Liberal media says Denver made a ‘grave misstep’ in cuts to pay for migrant costs

By Colorado Peak Politics The Denver Post’s editorial board has made it official among his voting base: Mayor Johnston made a grave misstep cutting services directly impacting families to pay for Biden’s open borders and resulting migrant costs. The bottom line is this: Denver is still out $28 million for sheltering, feeding, and shipping off tens of thousands of migrants to other cities paying for their bus and plane tickets. Instead of using the $262 million in the city’s emergency reserves or even the $34 million in contingency funds to cover those costs, Johnston opted to make Denver taxpayers feel the pain just to recoup a measly $5 million of the city’s $4 billion budget. From the Denver Post: Johnston announced cuts last week to some of Denver’s core s...

Caldara: Bizarre bills flow from Colorado’s loony legislature

By Jon Caldara | Complete Colorado (You can listen to this column, read by the author, here.) While Colorado’s governmental core functions are going unattended, as witnessed by crime, traffic and crumbling roads, the legislature is busying itself with the most critical work of all — coming up with wing-bat crazy bills to promote the trans agenda by disempowering parents, crush needed industries and torture puppies. By far, my favorite is House Bill 1039. In its original version it empowers any kid in school to choose his own name “to reflect that individual’s gender identity.” The school must use the new name he, she or “they” chose in all their record keeping, teaching, activities — even the yearbook. Mind you, at 18 years old any young adult can legally change ...

Editorial: Nearly a dozen Republicans want to go to Congress in 4th District

By Rocky Mountain Voice Editorial Board The issue: Colorado’s 4th Congressional District will offer a field of 11 Republican candidates and 17 candidates total for a seat in Congress. We say: A field this large will be difficult to navigate. Get to know the candidates, their values and positions. Ultimately, delegates and then voters will be tasked with selecting one person to send to Washington, D.C. A five-minute opportunity for Congressional candidates to state their case to prospective voters drew a capacity crowd Sunday evening in Windsor at the President's Day Celebration, hosted by the Colorado Conservative Patriot Alliance, in American Legion Post No. 109. Five minutes. That’s 300 seconds. Not exactly an eternity. Then again, anyone unfamiliar with Colorado’s 4th Con...

Reclaiming George Washington’s legacy: The truth behind President’s Day

By Tori Ganahl | Rocky Mountain Voice In the heart of winter, Americans pause to remember one of the nation's greatest leaders, George Washington. Yet, as the holiday season unfolds, the true essence of Washington's Birthday often gets lost in the shuffle of modern interpretations. Since 1879, February 22nd has stood as a testament to the exemplary leadership of George Washington, with the federal government recognizing it as an official holiday. However, over time, the solemnity of this occasion has been diluted by efforts to broaden its scope. George Washington, a paragon of humility, would have likely eschewed the grandeur associated with modern celebrations. Instead, he remained focused on serving his country, even on his own birthday. Despite his modesty, the reverence for Wa...

Could $4 a gallon gasoline be back before Presidential Election Day?

By Charley Blaine | The Street Oil and gasoline prices have distinct seasonal patterns, up after the first of the year up until some time in the summer.  The big questions for this year are:  How high will crude oil prices go?  Will gasoline prices hit startling levels? After peaking and sliding into the end of the year, what happens next might be more painful than you expect. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE STREET

The crazy things Biden’s anti-coal crusade will do to ordinary Americans

By Roger Hanshaw | Fox News The Biden administration’s approach to energy policy ignores the importance of coal and baseload electricity demands.  President Joe Biden revealed as much in a speech last year, announcing that the U.S. will "be shutting these plants down all across America and having wind and solar." Further, Biden's Climate Envoy John Kerry stated at the UN climate conference COP28 that, "we will be working to accelerate unabated coal phase-out across the world."  The Biden administration is determined to eliminate coal-fired power plants in the name of "environmental justice." This is shortsighted.  Biden is now following through on his plans by wielding the vast power of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Biden's EPA gave th...

Gov. Polis busted for cooking on gas stove in his home

By Colorado Peak Politics Did our glassy-eyed governor just expose his hypocrisy and ownership of a (Gasp!) gas stove in sharing a picture of his Valentine’s Day meal with the masses? Governor Polis doesn't want us to have gas stoves or gas water heaters, or anything gas... yet HE has a gas stove?! #copolitics https://t.co/ZV4EWeyV1l— Joshua T. Hosler (@JoshuaHosler) February 15, 2024 The folks on X sure seem to think so. And yet, it’s a little hard to tell, because the photo was cropped so suspiciously close. So we overexposed the shot just a smidgen to take a closer look at the blacked out burner in the bottom right corner to see if that was a gas top grate, or a glass top for an electric stove. Lo and behold, that ain’t no flat top glass burning electric...
