By Lindsey Grewe | CBS 11 Colorado Springs When crooks plowed an SUV into a smoke shop in east Colorado Springs in the wee hours of Monday morning, it was only the latest in a long list of similar crimes reported in the city just since the spring. Coronado, Pine Creek, and Sand Creek High Schools as well as Holmes and Sand Creek Middle School will all have a crosswalk and slow speed zone before students have their first day of school. According to police, the men got in an argument while the first suspect was gathering signatures in a business parking lot near Uintah and 19th Street Monday afternoon. Things quickly escalated from there. “The person gathering signatures pulled a knife and menaced the citizen. By Jared Dean | CBS 11 Colorado Springs Sergeant Patrick Rice with the Colorado State Patrol says although the state has made serious progress when it comes to detecting and enforcing driving under the influence of marijuana they still have a long way to go. “We still have a long way to go as you can see on our roads we still have many many impaired drivers killing people drivers in Colorado nearly every day,” Rice said. Just last year there were 235 crashes caused by impaired driving in El Paso County. Tied with 2022 but the highest number the county has seen in the last ten years. TAX DAY: Colorado tax experts busy this season due to state TABOR refund

The IRS is estimating 19 million taxpayers will file for an automatic six-month extension. Although an extension grants extra time to file, the IRS says it does not extend the obligation to pay. “There’s two penalties you can face if you owe the IRS money by the deadline. The first is the failure the file penalty, and that one is 5% of the unpaid taxes. That one is very severe, and you can avoid that one by filing an extension. Rebecca Lavrenz was convicted on four misdemeanor charges including entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct inside a restricted building, disorderly conduct in the Capitol, and parading or picketing in the Capitol, according to court documents. According to the statement of facts for the Lavrenz case, multiple tipsters contacted the FBI to state that Lavrenz was among the rioters.
