11 States Urge U.S. Supreme Court to Protect Presidential Primary Ballot Integrity

SOURCE: THELOBBY-CO.COM A group of 11 states have filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court, urging the court to overrule Colorado in a case involving former President Donald Trump's removal from the state's Republican presidential primary ballot. The case raises concerns about the potential misuse of the U.S. Constitution by states to remove candidates from their primary ballots, a move that could have far-reaching consequences for the integrity of our electoral process. Missouri Republican Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, who led the coalition, expressed deep concerns about the case, saying in a statement, "This has the potential to tear our nation apart if left unchecked." The group of state election officials submitted an amicus or "friend of the court" brief, emphasizing that...

Failed Biden Economic Policies Lead to Increase in Unemployment Filings in Colorado

SOURCE: THELOBBY-CO.COM The state of Colorado, initial filings for unemployment benefits have surged in the past week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The increase in jobless claims is indicative of the detrimental impact that President Biden's failed economic policies are having on hardworking Coloradans. The latest data reveals that new jobless claims in Colorado reached 2,748 in the week ending January 13, marking an increase from the previous week's 2,648 claims. These numbers paint a stark picture of the struggles faced by Colorado residents in finding and maintaining stable employment. While the nation as a whole experienced a decrease in unemployment claims, with numbers dropping to 187,000 last week, the situation in Colorado tells a different story. It is ev...

Colorado Democrats pass resolution declaring Jan. 22 Roe v. Wade Anniversary Day

By Marissa Ventrelli  | SOURCE: COLORADO POLITICS The legislature has passed a resolution designating Jan. 22 as "Roe v. Wade Anniversary Day" in Colorado. Time to stop ballot box wildlife policy before Polis brings in the Grizzlies

SOURCE: COLORADO PEAK POLITICS A Western Slope lawmaker is making it his mission to stop city folk from playing with wildlife policy at the ballot box and forcing any more apex predators down the throats of rural areas that don’t want it. Republican State Sen. Perry Will says he’s introducing a bill this session to stop the madness with these dangerous mandates. Will told the Delta County Independent in a recent interview that he’s tired of ballot box policy from people who don’t have any skin the game. “This bill’s going to show the governor and hopefully a whole lot of other people how you reintroduce a species the right way with the professionals doing it. By running this bill, we will avoid an initiative to reintroduce wolverines. It’s going to be a good message ...

Colorado offered $1.45 billion in incentives to attract new business. About 5% was claimed.

By Tamara Chuang, Colorado Sun If all 35 companies approved in 2023 take Colorado up on its offer of a tax credit to move or expand here, they’ll create more than 12,700 new jobs in the state in the next eight years.  The past year’s slate of approved job-creation tax credits is valued at $146 million, or double the amount approved in 2022 — and for twice the potential new workforce. From startups like Alquist, which plans to 3D-print houses in Greeley, to lithium-ion battery manufacturer Amprius Technologies in Brighton and several space- or semiconductor-related firms weighing a move to El Paso County, the new cohort joins more than 300 past awardees that have qualified for $1.45 billion of tax credits and created around 20,000 jobs in 14 years.  But so far, most award...

Douglas County sues to overturn state board’s decision to block property tax relief plan

By Jesse Paul, Colorado Sun Douglas County is suing a state board that last month blocked the county’s creative attempt to offer a $28 million property tax break to homeowners by making an across-the-board reduction in previously determined home values.  The 15-page lawsuit was filed Tuesday in Denver District Court against the State Board of Equalization. It argues that the board didn’t have the authority to block the tax break and that it didn’t follow Colorado’s open meetings laws in doing so.  The county is asking a judge to overturn the board’s unanimous decision to stop the reduction in home values.  The Douglas County Commission voted in September to reduce the county’s valuations, determined in May, of single-family homes, townhomes an...
